I did a search for "AUD.INI and could not find the file on my system. Although the update installed successfully. The latency in set at 49ms and it still does it.

By default, it's in "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Cakewalk\SONAR 7 Producer Edition", and make sure you check "Search hidden files and folders".

Bassmanx,

In order to see the new AUD.INI settings you'll have to make at least one change to your Audio Options page (Options::Audio). Change the latency and save the changes, then you'll be able to see this new variable in your AUD.INI file. By the way, having such a high latency setting can be as detrimental as having a too low of a setting. It varies with each system so this is just a general rule. Try lowering the latency to around 20 or maybe 10 ms and see if you still hear glitching. Report back once you're done testing or if you have any further questions.

EDIT: Oops! Misread your problem, Susan got it though. Try that instead, but do lower your latency.

Take care!

I just Re-installed the patch and no AUD.INI to be found anywhere....I have maxed out the buffer as far as I can...no use. Like I said, it wasn't there in 7.0.1 so it's not like I have a screwed up machine.

I'll deal with it tomorrow.

Bassmanx,

Windows can't find it through a regular search because you have to enable hidden files/folders first. But instead, follow these steps:

1- In Control Panel (classic view), double-click on "Folder Options".

2- On the "View" Tab select "show hidden files and folders". Click "OK".

3- Then navigate to "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Cakewalk\SONAR 7 Producer Edition", you'll find it there.

4- Double-click the AUD.ini file found in this folder and search for the variable called "DropoutMsec". The default is set to 250 ms but you want to change that and test Sonar each time. Positive numbers refer to "ms" while negative numbers refer to buffers (i.e. the default setting is of 250 ms but a setting of -2 means twice your audio buffer size/latency setting).

How did you guys know about the "varible" AUD.INI file?....is that in the manual or cakewalk site?

Where can I read up on this? How do I go back to ver 7.01 should I have problems?

Thanks Jeff.............(no motorboating with 7.02 yet!)

Hi Jeff-

Open the Help File [F1], click the Search tab, and type in 'AUD.INI' for a general discussion. I don't think the Help File says where it's located specifically (although it should!), but it's typically in the path mentioned above:

"C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Cakewalk\SONAR 7 Producer Edition", and make sure you check "Search hidden files and folders".

DropoutMsec is covered in page 10 of the 7.0.2 Readme.rtf.

It's in the help file under ".inifiles" It explains the various .ini files, what they're comprised of, and how to change 'em.

Thanks Susan/Nick

No motorboating yet........but will read up on fixes just in case it starts.

Are most of the folks that are experiencing motorboating using a PCI card?.....just wondering....Im using firewire.

FWIW, I'll throw this out there again. My motorboating (more of a putter sound for me) issue in 6.2.1 was caused by a single plugin (otiumFX BassLane). I think I'm the only one who has associated this issue with a plugin but I thought I'd letcha know anyway

I agree with Bassmanx. Before I install 7.0.2, no problems, then after installing 7.0.2, I started having this motorboating issue as others have which to me is inexcusable on Cakeswalks part. This is like saying "oh install this patch and it will fix these issues, but oh and by the way sorry but that will create a new set of problems". Obviously there are a lot of people now all dealing with the same issue, and I am seeing ton's of posts related to this, yet I have not seen one notice from Cakewalk staying sorry we screwed up and we are burning the midnight oil to fix this. I work a full time job and don't have the time to piddle around trying the search out a fix, that is Cakewalks responsibility. I love the product but this is horrible customer service, and I'm sure I am not the only one who is pissed about this.

Hey Cakewalk WHAT'S UP? When are you going to get a fix for this since it is happening to so many people I cannot believe it is individuals DAWS but your software that needs to be fixed.

ORIGINAL: Bassmanx

OK here is the link to the problem I am having.

Keep in mind that I had NONE of the motorboating problems that were discussed in 7.00 or 7.0.1. This is all NEW !!!

I realize that Sonar has to work on a ton of different machine and all that. However, I'm p*ssed because, after 3 versions, it's the audio engine that is the NEW problem.

The audio engine IS the heart and soul of the product. After 3 versions of Sonar 7, it should work as advertised. Period. I don't care how many systems it has to deal with. Compatibility between some of the GUI and different hardware I can understand but not when it comes to the audio engine. That should work on the bottom of the ocean and on the moon!

I'm very disappointed.

Hi everyone. I'm also a motoboater...but like some others herte, it's been there since Sonar Pe 5 at least. I bought a new computer this pass November ( 4core q 6600 ) and it still does it from time to time..i also experiment with the BSOD quit frequently.... i think i'm just gonna go back to version 6.21.

Anyway, i'll take a look at the Aud.ini files ...

Thanks for all the tips you guys ( Jose and Susan )

OK I am at work, on lunch break so I can't try new solutions yet. BUT here is what I have done so far:

1 ) I finally did find the AUD.INI file. I changed the 250 valueto 500.......no improvement.
2 ) I chnaged latency setting from 9ms all the way up to 2 full seconds......no improvement.

Again I stress the issue is not on my end. I am using the same settings I have used from Sonar 4 all the way through to Soanr 7. The variable is not on my end. I will try to reinstall back to Sonar 7.0.1 when I get home.

I have learned a lesson here. I will not be buying Sonar 8 until August 31st, 2009. I feel like I've paid good money to be part of a Beta program.

Just grasping at straws here, but have you reprofiled your audio card since applying the patch?

Good point. We shouldn't be tinkering with INI files to get the program to work.

First thing I'm doing when I get home is switching back to 7.0.1.
