Motown-style Brass samples? Dare I hope for ... freeware?

Looking for really dry and gritty Motown brass - doing a cover of "Mr Big Stuff  - Jean knight". No real budget for buying samples... anyone know of some good stuff out there?

hard to find good soul brass samples for free. The DSK brass vst is decent but I don't think it's the kind of sound you are looking for: http://www.dskmusic.com/dsk-brass/ Your best bet may be to check out some of the hip-hop forums that offer various freebie sample packs. If i come across a good one, i will post.

Hev not listened to these but this is a link from a hip-hop production forum: http://www.nois3.com/2011/06/brass-horns.html most of the sample packs are assembled by individuals so i don't know the original source

LJB, are you going to do single keyboard chord brass sound or multiple part horns arrangement ?

If it's the later.. may I recommend Garritan Jazz Band.. the more I work with it, the more I like it. For example, for trumpet alone, you have 5 different trumpets, and for each trumpet you have a open, straight, cup, etc..(further 6 more types of sound). 3 different kind of saxes for each range, etc.. really flexible way of assembling the wind section. But you have to do single line arrangement for each of the instrument.
