Motu Micro Lite Midi Interface Clock loop problem (Resolved)

Hello all,

I have a Motu Micro-lite Midi interface that's I've had for about three years and I love using it with 5 midi ins and 5 midi outs.  Suddenly, it stopped connecting to my Windows 10 computer and all of the midi port lights are brightly lit, however, all other USB 3.0 and 2.0 devices are still able to connect properly.

I first thought it was a USB problem, but that is not the case.  After some intense Internet searching, it appears that there is a midi clock issue,

I found a posting on the Internet pertaining to this, but am not sure as to how to fix this.  Any assistance will be appreciated.

"All the output LED lights on my MIDI Interface are glowing
Response:
All output LEDs glowing would be evidence of a clock loop. A clock loop can cause random patch changes, stuck notes, missing notes, etc. There are two ways to correct this. You could use the filtering capabilities of any interface supporting clockworks to filter these messages. MIDI clock is a real-time message, so you would filter out real-time messages on the inputs of the interface in clockworks, on all midi channels. You could also find the parameter that turns the clock on or off on all your keyboards and drum machines, and turn these OFF so they are not transmitting beat clock. This usually means setting something in the keyboard or drum machine to "midi" or "external" as it's clock as it's clock source instead of "internal"."

OK, here is my problem, if I can't get my computer to recognize the Motu Micro- lite, then how will I be able to send the necessary messages to the device to do what is required as listed above.

I don't know how a clock loop would happen without a PC connected to it and program talking to it. I'm not personally familiar with that unit, but the MOTU site does not claim full "Clockworks" functionality. So I don't think it can do internal routing (of clock or any other MIDI) between ports. As you suggest in your comment about it not connecting to your PC, that's a clue that those suggestions highlighted in your post do not apply. But to partially answer how your MIDI equipment could be reconfigured to stop sending clock, that can usually be done at the equipment's own front panel. Or just unplug the MIDI cables.

My own MOTU interface (MIDI Express 128) occasionally goes all-lights-on after a PC reboot. The only way to fix it is unplug it from USB and plug it back in. Shutting down the PC won't do it for me unless also turning off the PC power supply. (The reason for that is that my PC does not withdraw power from USB ports when the PC reboots or shuts down, therefore does not reset USB devices.) If you've already tried unplugging it from USB, then there's a chance the micro lite is broken.

    Hello bvideo,

I called Motu support from work this morning and the problem is not a Midi Loop.  The problem is that the device just went bad somehow.  Motu is asking for me to sent the device to them and they will evaluated it and fix it or send me another unit, depending on their findings.   The cost for me will be $39.95 plus shipping the unit to them.

I don't mind the price of $39.95 but if the price would have been near $100.00 then I would have just gotten a new one as they are now down to $139.99.   I really like my Micro lite, it's a good device.  It's no MIDI Express 128, but for it's baby brother, it suits my needs.

    Thanks for your comments,

    Peace,

Sounds reasonable for an out of warranty repair. The MIDI express 128 is not especially fancy and does not use Clockworks either, just more ports. Your micro lite has a better price/port ratio.
