Move SONAR to Mac?
Alrighty... I own Sonar X2, X3 and Music Creator (REALLY old version), but I'll be moving to Norway for music-related work for my church for a year, and I'm wondering if there might be any way I can get Sonar or Music Creator on my Macbook without having to pay for a new license or something?
I'd love to retain access to my years of work and mucking around, as well as have a nice go-to place for even MORE mucking around, and I'm going to keep all of my files on a few hard drives even if I don't get a copy of one of the DAWs on Mac.

You do not need another license to install a Cakewalk DAW on another machine. Cakewalk just asks that only one machine at a time runs the DAW. As far as running on a Mac, that for is someone else, I have not used a Mac since they moved to OS-X.

Sonar is a Windows only application and will not work or even install in Mac OS X (or any other Mac operating system).
Some people have reported successfully running some versions of Sonar on intel-based Macs using a Windows installation and Bootcamp. I've not tried it so have no personal experience. You would need to install a licensed copy of Windows on the Mac's own drive or an external drive first of course.

Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

Wait... I thought they released it for Mac!! I know they have a version of Music Creator? Hm... I'll have to look into it then. That makes me rather nervous and unsettled about this whole thing, because I don't want to shell out another $100 or $250 plus the cost of a Windows computer just to open my files.

All Cakewalk DAWs are Windows only, including Music Creator. Music Creator is a simplified version of SONAR.

I think maybe i"ll get Parallels or something. Honestly there aren't enough Windows-exclusive apps that I own to warrant paying $60 for the app (although it's REALLY powerful, I just wouldn't get *enough* use myself!).... Maybe I can somehow dual-boot or just get my hands on a PC while I'm over there.
Who knows.. maybe I won't really have time there to work on things like these.

We run Sonar on our MAC all the time using boot camp. It actually runs better there than it does on one of our Windows boxes. I don't know if it's possible to run it on a macbook as I am not a mac man....my other engineer takes care of all that. But we have had 0 issues running a dual boot system on our full blown mac with boot camp. That's all the info I know though.

On that note Danny, I might give a shot to some sort of dual booting (if I can figure it out in time). Thanks for the suggestion!

davdud101 You don't need Parallels if you have a fairly recent Mac. I use Sonar on my MAC when I am at work some times running it in Windows 8.1 under Boot Camp. To get to Boot Camp, open Utilities in the Mac Applications folder and you will see it there. It's real easy and you can find lots of Videos on YouTube showing you how to install Windows 8 or 8.1 using Boot Camp. I installed Windows 8 and then went to the Windows Store App and downloaded 8.1.
