Move entire envelope up or down
So, here's the deal. Once I create a track volume envelope, the fader no longer controls the volume of the track, the envelope does. While mixing, I am stuck with the volume(s) that I have created with the envelope. How do I move the entire envelope up or down, to adjust the overall volume with the dynamics going up or down also? I looked in the documentation and couldn't find a way to do that. I am using X1a, as it states in my signature. Thanks, Tom

Thanks Scott. When I leave offset mode, with the volume parameter remain changed or will it go back to the original volume, set by the envelope? tom

I use the Gain control to push the whole track up or down, unless there's a compressor on the track, in which case I use the compressor's makeup gain. An alternative is to select the entire envelope and move all nodes at once, but that's clumsy and coarse. Offset mode isn't worth the bother. What SONAR really needs are envelope editing features such as global level adjustments, scaling, inversion and limiting. Imagine being able to say "increase every node by 2dB except for those already over 4dB", or "copy this envelope to another track and invert it so it's a mirror image", or "make this envelope less/more extreme". AFAIK, no DAW offers such features, but then DAWs are still mostly stuck in a paradigm based on automated desks from the last century.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I'm not Scott, but... Offset mode is a post-stage that literally offsets the result of your existing automation by the value selected while in Offset mode. It gives the same end result as grabbing the entire envelope and dragging it all up or down, without actually changing the envelope, and is a heck of a lot more efficient in most cases. But noted in other threads, it would probably be a good idea for the UI to be more noticable. It doesn't affect me in the least since I've been using it for years and know what to look for, but it's something that has taken quite a few users by surprise. BTW... I like Bit's idea for automation "compression/limiting" and an inverse option.

Thanks everyone. I think that I am going to use bitflipper's suggestion and use gain. I don't have a compressor on the track. Tom
