Move over Behringer:

I no longer have a Behringer as it has been disposed of (wont go into details) but women sometimes want their own way!

I am now looking for a Mackie which has better Pre amps for a cleaner signal. The only down fall with getting a new one I realised is that they are no Control rooms or sub outs which would directly connect into my emu sound card which has line ins (2) and line outs (2). Obviously with the control rooms jacks there is limited amount of fuss (meaning no switching around).

My fears are if I do buy the Mackie profx12 will I be fiddling around with the set up every time I want to record or just play something. I hope there is enough clarity in this post?

Thanks

nope! most small mixers have tape in/out which is what connect to your soundcard. speakers then connect to the main outs on the mixer. does that help? such as with this mixer: http://www.dv247.com/stud...aft-notepad-124--68860

Im thinking of using the spdif for low end distortion too so that may uncomplicate things.

Thanks mgh least it was clear enough for you to give me a decent answer (is that the mixer that you use?)

I'm actually more interested in knowing what happened to the Behringer.

Sounds to me like the story MUST be told.

Fortunately she didn't know that Behringer is the cheap stuff...

Anyway, for a small, high-quality Mackie mixer that should do what you want I'd recommend the 1202-VLZ Pro.  I've got one along with a Mackie CFX12 and I find that I don't use the onboard effects so why pay for them?  The mic-pres are outstanding on the Mackies so either way you'll be doing much better than with Behringer.

I can't see where any benefit is going to come from with this desk you mention paired with the E-Mu compared to what you already had or the Soundcraft one Mark has highlighted.

Strikes me that most of what you are paying extra for with that particular Mackie is the 16 bit built in USB I/F which you don't need as you already have the 24 bit capable E-MU card.

Yes definitely use the SPDIF out from the E-MU (I'm assuming a 0404 here), and a pair of RCA to Jacks from the CD/Tape out from the mixer to the L and R ins on the E-Mu.  Then you have your main outs from the mixer available for your direct monitoring or PA use.  On some little Behringers the Main outs are wired in parallel to the Phono outs anyway.

Personally I'd think if you are going to spend the kind of money that the Mackie desk costs then you'd be better off looking a bit higher for a more capable interface than the E-Mu as far as inputs and outputs go and eliminating the need for a sub-mixer, but, the Soundcraft Mark featured looks a much better value bet than the Mackie you mention as a replacement for what you had.

But of course you know your requirements better than I.

Soundcraft use lexicon pre's so that is actually a better deal. At the moment I am just lookin around and thanks for the advise on the SP/DIF. I was under the assumption that the Mackie had build quality.

Glad that the Behringer has gone I never mistreated it and it was whining like a little girl and sometimes oinked like a pig.

i use an earlier version - http://www.dv247.com/stud...4-compact-mixer--19744 which is doing just fine! got that at the time as it had Hi-Z switch for DIing guitars, balanced outs and 2 headphone outs. goes into my echo audiofire 2, all works grand! shame they discontinued it, but i do think Soundcraft give very good bang for buck!

I've been researching these Mixers compared to the others Mackie, Alesis (bearing in mind the price range) Looks like the money will be going towards Soundcraft british made so I am assuming the components are going to be made well and will last me longer than the previous one I had.

I believe most everything is actually made in China now. The company headquarters and sometimes local assembly of parts may be in a less foreign location, but it's the engineering your buying into, not were it's built.

    Cactus very true:

SoundCraft actually make it a point to suggest the build quality is high on their products.

I found that the Behringer Mixer was good but its degradation was abismal. So I don't necessarily want to go through that again. I want something with better build quality.

From a British Manufacturer your almost gauranteed that.

Thank you, Thank you very much!
