Movie night just got bigger

Can someone tell bapu that I snapped and went out and got a "40 Sony Bravia LCD 1080P 60Hz last night at BestBuy.

I'm the first guy on the block with a HD camera and the last guy with a HDTV. :-)

I wanted the 46" but my wife (the same one who lets me have all my fancy audio gear) said I couldn't have it because our house is so small.

She's probably right.

We're streaming NetFlix off of a laptop via HDMI and it looks pretty darn good.

I know it's only half the size of what bapsi is used to to... but it's a big step up for le-shack MacQ.

Now I have to get rid of the standard def Sony WEGA CRT I haven't used in 3 months that probably will run for another 10 years with an outstanding picture :-(... I wish I knew somebody who would enjoy it... but I guess that's unlikely.

best,
mike

Because he's Ubiquitous, I'm guessing Bubba already told Bapu.

Great news for movie should spread quickly.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

Sorry Mike, I was the one who put the bug in you wife's ear about the 46" being too big.

What fun would movie night be without binoculars?

I have some really giant binoculars... they cost more than that new TV. I guess that shows where my *values* lie.

    She's probably right.

    So she's brainwashed you then?

Women are funny - somewhere they've acquired this odd concept that a TV can be "too big".

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

You can get NetFlix directly off of the TV itself if you connect it up to your internet.  I was told they also have a wireless setup ya just plug into it if you dont want to hardwire to your router.  I have that exact TV in one of my rooms and love it.  Congrats on upgrading your Movie Nights  LOL

Now that we are streaming Netflix and Youtube off of a laptop onto the large screen she says she wishes I had argued harder for the 46... I told her I wasn't willing to beg in front of our sales clerk. (who was a nice and helpful person). So we will enjoy the 40.

I'm shopping for some sort of PC box to use as a stereo and DVD/Blu-Ray player, and streaming video system.

I figure I'll use a wireless keyboard and mouse to drive it.

    :-)

    best regards,

    Here's a recommendation for you;

I have one too Derek Jarman's 'Blue'.

Make sure you get the silent version.

It may be available in 'Red' and 'Green' now too but I'm not sure.

Should keep Bapu quiet for a few hours at least.

Here's a 37 minute clip of one of the highlights.

Sorry I could only get a 5X4 aspect ratio clip.

    Enjoy.

When I watch "Blue" I have to sit thru it all. Even though I've seen it like 2,463.87432987 times. I still think there might be a flash of yellow in there somewhere.

That's a great way to do it - if you want to save some $$, find a refurbished wireless-n router that supports repeater mode instead of buying the proprietary unit.  We paid $40 for the second router, and the couple hours of foul language it cost to set up the repeater has been well worth the investment.  The only "wire" is the ethernet cable that runs from the second router to the blu-ray player. Netflix works great.

Today, approximately 89.5% of all electricity generated, will be made with steam.

Mike, let me explain my wry steam powered comment.

Watching PBS last nite, they aired a special on a Comic-con in Altlanta, and one of the sub genres is Steam Punk, a kind of future world post apocalypse where every device is steam powered and the dress is Victorian.

No, Steampunk is an alternative present/past where the Victorian fetish for polished copper plate, rivets and steam power replaces the rise of electricity.

You know what goes well with a large(r) TV?  A comfy recliner, that's what!  A side table, or flat surface within easy reach is great for holding your beverage.  If your wife likes her recliner, you can then get one for yourself.

With luck, you may be able to put yours in the same room as the TV.
