Moving Command Center's content to a different HD
I apologize for asking this as I'm sure it's already been covered in here somewhere. I've only found bits and pieces about how to do this. I have 3 HD's in my machine: C: (SSD) OS/Software D: Samples E: Sonar Projects When I installed Plat back in January, it installed everything on my C: drive and that's now filling up very quickly.......(of note, on all of the previous X series of Producer, I had everything installed in the proper directories). Could someone please give me (step by step) clear instructions on how to move as well as direct CCC to install all the sounds/samples on to my D: drive? Thanks!! Mesh

Not what you are asking... but.... to move downloads which takes up a huge amount of space... Go into CCC settings and observe the download file path. Move that folder somewhere else take note of the new file path. Enter the new file path into CCC (same place) save the settings, return to the main area. As an extra precaution restart CCC. Bonus points - delete the old packages in these folders you don't have any use for. Cheers...

I updated to the new CCC and tried to change the destination path of my Cakewalk Content folder from my SSD drive (OS & other software drive) to my samples drive, but got this error: --------------------------- Path Validation Error --------------------------- Please correct the following errors: Copying content failed, verify that you have selected a valid path and there is adequate disk space. Previous setting has been restored. ---------------------------
Of note, this is the actual location for all 3 X series of Producer and it does have 1TB free. Not sure why it's not accepting that path as the error message above is definitely incorrect.

Just observed a new fun quirk of CCC: after a rollback for testing, then roll-forward again, the bleeping &#&D(#&@ program is now on C drive again. Can't believe this stuff. All my options say D & E drives, but no, CCC knows better and follows little overloud back home to C.

other than uninstalling and reinstalling it with proper paths set, you could move everything and use symbolic links (directory junctions) to point to the new locations ... I know this is old-fashioned but still works nicely - especially if you want to move large sample collections that are linked to program material with paths still pointing to the originally installed locations

I have moved all my CCC downloads to an external HD, and have a setup somewhat like you. No problems. As a precaution, I always copy, confirm the copy and then delete, when I need to move large folders. Did you do as The Doktor suggested? Save, and close CCC. Re open. Some of the setting (Cakewalk Content), is inside SONAR. Under Preferences (P), File, Folder Location. Best of luck.

Doktor Avalanche Did you move the folder and all the content?
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. (I'm only trying to move the cakewalk "content" to a different HD.) Although I didn't "click & drag" the cakewalk content folder as a whole from my C: drive to my D: drive, I moved all the subfolders that were NOT in the D: drive (only about 4-5 of them that were missing) and size wise, the folders all matched up between the two drives. Then I changed the path in the CCC to the new location (D: drive), clicked save (CCC seemed to be doing the changes), but after a minute or two, I get that error above. As you suggested, I can try to move the whole Cakewalk Content as a whole, but this error seems to be more of a problem within the CCC not liking/wanting to change the file path. (Interestingly, it gave me a warning "Bad things can happen" if I chose to change the file path....lol)

If you already moved your folder. This you do in SONAR Preferences, under file location.

Zargg, the thing is CCC is installing all the Platinum Cakewalk Content on my C: drive. When I run Sonar, the program sees it in the D: drive as it should. It's just that the CCC is installing all the new Platinum content on my C: drive...(of note, when I first installed CCC/Platinum in January, I did let it install everything on my C: drive (default path) as at the time, it was not clear how to separate the install locations........thus, I planned on moving them once CCC was updated to give us more choices....i.e.. right now :))

Thanks Zargg!! At this point, anything is worth a try. I'm just surprised that changing the file path is this complicated........it should be quite a simple task. SampleTank 3 also gave me (as well as many) this similar problem. All my other installers (much larger libraries) were a breeze to change directory paths.

I changed my content to the D drive last month, and had no issues then, and no issues now. Just as an FYi,, it went from an SSD to a hard drive, and not even one hiccup. When I say move, I meant copy, then change the dir in CCC, test, and then blow out Content in the C drive. I did the same thing with Projects...These folders are off of the root, so maybe that's the difference?

Actually Charly, that's exactly what I've done, but keep getting that blasted error.......the destination drive has about 1TB free space and it's certainly a "valid path" as that's where all my X1, X2, & X3 content is all kept.

1. I made an folder on my secondary HD ( D: ), named : Command Center 2. I started CCC, and changed the download path to D:\Command Center hit save and close. 3. then go to : C:\Programdata\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads and copy all the files over to D:\Command center 4. i delete C:\Programdata\Cakewalk\Command Center\ 5. i restart CCC and now: it recreates the default path and ask for login info.. NO WAY... Problem with having the path on C: is that not only have you the downloaded files, but the software installs also on C: That will make a HUGE, backup file, when i do Backup of my whole disk ( system ) and that's not a good thing, it will take longer time to backup and recover.

Thanks Sounblend, but at step #2 when I hit save (after a few minutes), I get that error each & every time. I know this is a very simple process as I've done it with other software very quickly. My download path is actually set correctly in CCC to my D: drive (samples). Just thinking out aloud here.....I'll try running CCC as Admin (although I'm automatically signed on the PC as Admin).

I only try to change the CCC Downloads, to move it away from C: To free up space and make the backup of my system ( C: ) smaller and quicker to do. Should be quite easy, but no. Seems as long CCC, do not see the original path, it recreates it again even i have chosen and saved the setting, to the new path in CCC, in beforehand.

BobF Mesh - What exactly are you trying to change? Downloads, or Content, or both? "Content path" is in a registry key that is shared across Cakewalk products. Is this what you're having trouble with?
Hi Bob, I'm only trying to change the "Content Path" to a different drive (From C: drive to the D: drive). (my C: drive is an SSD/OS drive and is getting filled up.....thus, the reason to move this Content folder) As I mentioned above, the "Downloads Path" DOES go to the correct location on my D: drive......(just not the Content Path).

Sorry for asking you to repeat yourself. Once enough goes back/forth I lose track Here is an export of the keys in question from my registry. I'm not suggesting you directly edit these. These were set by installs long before S-Plat and CCC ... CCC automatically picked up the ContentDir key. Sonar loops and other content have continued to install here, Dim Pro, Rapture and Rapture Pro have also honored this. I mention this because C3 might be [silently] refusing to honor your change request to keep from mucking up other products, or it may simply not have rights to change this key. ============================================= [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software] "ProjectDir"="C:\\Cakewalk Projects" "ContentDir"="D:\\Cakewalk Content" "Language"="English" "SampleDataDir"="D:\\Cakewalk Content\\Cakewalk Sample Data" ============================================= If you do decide to try editing this, I would copy everything in the ContenDir on C to the new one, back up your registry, and rename the original ContentDir. Then edit the ContentDir key to match your new location. This should make it easy to go back if it doesn't work. THEN startup CCC and see if it picks up the new location, and if not, maybe it will allow it to be changed. Be advised I am NOT a GURU. If you do this, you assume all risk. Evaluate what I have written here and make your own decision on whether or not you want to try this.

Thanks Bob!! This is the first proper solution I've got so far..... In the past, I have only briefly messed around with the Registry stuff and not very familiar with doing this. However, I'll keep this as a last option if no other solution is available. I'm going to log in a problem report and see what the Bakers suggest. I truly appreciate the help Bob!!
