Moving to Germany

In about a month I'm moving from Holland to Germany (area Osnabruck), for work. Any Sonarites from that area?
I'd like to get to know some people in the area for music making, and practice my German of course.
And moreover is GEMA really such a pain in the @$$ as a rights company?

Best of luck with the move SEV. I'm sure there are some Sonarites over in Osnabruck......there's always one in every crevice of the world.

    Hi,

HIs music tastes will take a serious hit now ... his Sonar will be used to put together "krautrock" ... and I for one, have been hoping that we get to hear that around here some, hey?

I've been told it's the brew that makes you crazy, but some have said that the sandoz makes a difference too!

Best of luck with your move brother. I hope it all goes well and you meet a few good people there. :) Man, I'd hate to have to learn German...good luck with that too!

As for GEMA, yes, definitely a pain. LOL! I've been with them as my Euro company since 1999 and they have always annoyed me. But they do a good job once you get all the bs out of the way. All the best to you!

Thanks all for your kind words. Learning German, probably won't a real issue: It's quite close to Dutch.
@paolo: that's a bit weird sentence to be remember. But a lot more innocent than what they tend to teach you when you get to Holland. For some reason 'Neuken in de keuken' is oft taugth an well remembered.. (a translation would probably be censored on the forum).

@Moshkia: Well maybe I should write a programm that uses Sonar stand-alone, like a Kraftwerk MKII. But I'm usually more rock and metal oriented, so that could lead to Rammstein-like noizes.

@Danny: yeah I read some stories on GEMA. I guess I'll be fine, as long as I stay far away from any open licenses like Creative Commons.

If I ever have the money and the world doesn't explode I plan to live in Germany for a while. Supposedly lots of cool art communities and stuff and it seems to be one of the more stable countries in the world at the moment. I also really like beer. Have fun.

The last time I was in Germany I was put in a riot wagon by the police along with a few friends of mine.

Actually, we were picked up and returned to our hotel because we were about to run into a big anti-American protest parade that was headed towards us (this was 1981), but the story sounds better with just the first sentence.  Heh...

We spent a long weekend in Berlin a few years ago and we found the Germans to be extremely courteous, polite and generally pleasant.

I heard John Cleese tell some time ago that German crack themself up over that episode of Fawlty Towers. And also with the upcoming European Soccer Championship. And Holland and Germany playing against eachother in the first round. There might be other things to worry about.

Sander, there was a BBC documentary the other night about the rampant bigotry & racism in both Poland and Ukraine.

Why on earth UEFA chose these 2 countries to host their Premier Competition is beyond belief.

And now the head of UEFA, Michel Platini has stated that any player who leaves the pitch due to racist abuse coming from the terraces must be booked by the referee.

I think you're absolutely right about the authorities having other things to worry about.

Well the soccer business seems to  be more rotten everyday. Italy has again a big investigation into fixed games, and some major players were investigated by the police. And some investigation is going on in other major leagues too.

The statement of Platini is flat-out ridiculous. But then again, he's a businessman and he couldn't care less about racism, sportmannship and fair-play as long as the sponsorship money is coming in. UEFA is a corrupt as FIFA and the Olypics Committee.

And then there is of course the issue with Timosjenko, which made the whole championship even more political.

Ha ha, yes it probably would upset a few ! I think I remember that German phrase because even then I remember thinking - what is the point of teaching me that when there must be so many more useful things you could be teaching me? In a similar way if you ever find yourself in France, next to a tree with a small primate, who suddenly disappears and want to know where it went, just  let me know and I will be able to say with some confidence that ....le singe est dans l'arbre.  ;)

    Good luck with the move.
