Moving wave files from one track to another

in older versions of cakewalk I would hold shift and grab a wave file, say on track 1 and drag it to, say track 5 and the file would not move left or right on the time line as long as i held the shift button, is that still possible in sonar? when I move a wave from one track to another I have to zoom all the way in, and make sure, it stays at the right time on the time line.

Yes holding SHIFT while dragging clips to new tracks still works as it did in earlier versions.
Make sure you are grabbing the clip by the header (the top strip/upper part of the clip)
 
A B + C is the header

1. Holding down Ctrl will make a copy of the clip.
 
2. Holding down Shift locks either the horizontal or the vertical position depending on which way you move the mouse - i.e. if you move the mouse vertically, then the time position is locked but you can move the clip to other tracks; if you move the mouse horizontally, the clip is locked to that track.
 
Holding down Ctrl + Shift will preserve the behaviour of (2) above, but will make a copy of the clip rather than moving it.
