Mr. Kuper (Envelope Bug) Patch 4.0.4??

I'm sorry to bother you with this Ron (or anyone else from Cakewalk) but I was wondering if the problems with the Track and Clip Envelopes in 4.0.3 are going to be fixed.in 4.0.4. Cakewalk Tech Support informed me that there is indeed a bug in the envelopes and that it would be fixed in an upcomeing patch.

Cakewalk Tech Support reply to me: ----------------------------------------------

We have logged this as a bug so it should be addressed in either the
4.04 patch or a future patch release.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, I'm sorry to bother you with this but this bug is realy giving me problems.

..and then it's always too late ! ( i know , even now it is too late ) -
we've been asking for glitch-free envelopes for more than 2 years now so i do hope that they finally got it right

glitch free = NO timing problems , no weird stuff happen to a project from a certain point (number of tracks/fx/envelope nodes/beyond 7 minutes position) and on ..
no limited options when having the dropdown menus for selecting a midi CC# ,
no limit with converting envelopes to MIDI cc# events ( BOTH ways are needed )

    ...

out of all these problems (LOTS of pages and users were describing these) we usualy get something like 20% to 40% of the problems fixed

Much fun with ours to natural resound! <G>

I hope those are fixed, too. There were some jump-envelope errors introduced in 4.0.3, in particular, that were annoying. Also, I'll be interested to see how glitch-free the heavily revamped Sonar 5 envelopes are.

you and me both ... when it goes wrong .. it's the darndest thing .. but we'll find out pretty quick
whether it's one, both or neither ;-) .. if neither .. the automation in vegas is rock solid ;-)

    Hi Everybody,

The envelope bugs I'm talking about didn't show up untill patch 4.0.3. These are far more severe.

After makeing sure everything is set to Linear both in the Envelope Options and the Envelope Menu, I then select an Envelope. Then I start to add "Nodes" in the right places. I can usualy add 2 Nodes but by the time I get to the 3rd or 4th node, Sonar is adding it's own nodes in other places and createing "Jump Curves" between them.

Also, many times I go to add a Node and it immediately drops to "Infinity" and I have to either "reset" it or move it manualy. There have also been times that the placement of the envelope had no affect.

In one small clip where I added a "Gain" envelope I ended up with 47 Nodes and several "Jump" Curves when it should have only been 19 Modes and no "Jump" curves. I can change these "Jump" curves to "Linear" and delete Nodes but it only adds more Nodes and Jump Curves.

I may have to revert back to 4.0.2 but would rather not if 4.0.4 is going to fix this problem.

    Re Cakewalk Tech Support:-----------------

"The envelope issues were not present in 4.0.2. You will need to remove
SONAR completely in order to revert back to 4.0.2.

    Thanks for being patient."
    ----------------------------------------------------------

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not "ranting and raveing" to Cakewalk about this, it would just be very helpful for me to know if this fix will be in 4.0.4.

    Anyone from Cakewalk?

I'd rather not go back to 4.0.2 right now if it's going to be fixed in 4.0.4.

    Thanks in advance,

They are losing money (in the SHORT term) .. once again we'll let them do their job and as Jeff said some other apps have good automation (rock solid even ? wow ;0 )

for the longer term - monitor the forums and provide some real answers (it takes the guys with the technical skills so it might be a problem to just hire someone which is trying to do just some PR )

Ron can't answer everything here..too many questions and too little time.

T.S. Are you by chance using any RBC Audio plugs like RBC Voice Tweaker? I had many issues with envelopes until I removed this plug from the effects chain entirely.

    Hi Ron,

I know, got your message a little while ago. I'm in the process of doing some tests to nail this down a little better. I think I'm getting somewhere and will let you know as soon as I get it a little further along.

    Thank much,

    Hi Ron:
As you´re investigating this bug, I should to tell one observation which I made about the CLIPS ENVELOPES. When I try to insert nodes, the point where I double click for make this have a node inserted, but the node value go to infinity (value=0). This problem not occur in the track envelopes.
Can you to sum this to your investigation, please?
And good luck with the patch building.
    Greetings.

Thanks for looking into this bug Ron...

I'm being plauged with it myself....

Often I don't notice the extra nodes until I attempt to move one and find another "hidden" below it....

I just did an envelope last night to turn up the volume of a Trueverb plugin. The envelope does not seem the be "connected" to the plugin??? I could hear the reverb like it was supposed to be, just the sliders on the left did not match the envelope. Also on the bouce down the env did not do the the reverb volume. Today when I opened the file back up, the reverb envelope did not change the reverb at all, screen graphics or sound. Is this part of the bug you are talking about?
