    Thanks!

I've had it for a little over a week now, and it is definitely the new #1!!

It's a 2008 Gibson Custom Shop Historic '59 Re-Issue with the VOS (Vintage Original Spec) finish, in an "Iced Tea" burst. If you're ever in the market for one, consider contacting Saul at Centre City Music, as he really knows how to treat a customer, and he knows his guitars!!

Let's just say that I don't think this one was used in any photo shoots for Musicians Fiend ...I'm not on great terms with them right now because they apparently invented (fabricated) a supposed "agreement" they have with Gibson to not check guitars before they ship out from their (Musicians Fiend's) warehouse. The Gibson Rep I spoke to (another long story I'll share later) was confused by this and stated that to the best of his knowledge, Gibson doesn't have any kind of agreement like this with anyone. Anyways, Most of the Gibson Custom Shop guitars have this kind of look to them, definitely a few rungs above the "Les Paul Traditional" quality levels that I was looking at initially. Suffice it to say that this is the most $ I've ever spent on a guitar or single piece of recording gear *ever*!!

No. My wife will not allow it.

However, I do have a longstanding daily "date" with it every night from 11:00 PM until 1:00 AM, which is the only time I can consistently sit down and jam.

    Great guitar. I want one!

What is with the new guitar smell? I recently got a new PRS and it off gased for two weeks. I hang all my instruments so they are easy to get to. My wife was not pleased. My music room smelled like a guitar shop for so long. After a month if finally smells like me.........she's still pissed!

    Thanks!!

After the whole Musician's Fiend debacle (link), Gibson stood behind their product and did what they could to arrange it for me to hand pick a Traditional, since Musician's Fiend was unable to do so. So, I now have the Traditional that I was after too!!

Read about (and see pics of it) it here:

So, it all worked out well enough, I guess...

    I don't know Nikolas but it's real.
Believe it or not- I got my first gold top LP, I think in '65. I was around 10...I still remember the smell. Can't remember my age but can remember the smell. Crazy I know but true. It however was a wonderful smell. One of my best memories- nothing like a new Les Paul. It's a great thing to me everytime I hear of someone scoring one.
That has not been an issue since I've been living in Louisiana...in no time at all everything has that "southern smell".

I'm glad for Mr. Moon but also kinda bummed....got me wanting one. Wife's acting funny...she knows that look I get. lol

    Regards,
    Michael

Yeah, sure, I can do that. Just give me a link to an example of the kind of shot you'd like to see. I've been spending more time playing my new guitars now than I have been taking pictures of them, so I don't have any newer shots...

That looks like a lovely instrument!
I've got a 2002 LPS, that I'm very happy with - Same iced tea finish, but not so highly flamed. I'm curious , for that particular model, you pay a lot more over the cost of a regular LPS - is it really worth the price differential? Are there any actual construction differences, other than a nicer top, and finish?

    cheers

Yah, the R9 was more than the Traditional, and it's just like anything in audio: You pay up da butt to eek out the last 5% of utility and quality over the less expensive (i.e. Traditionals, Standards, and such) high-end stuff, which is about 95% there. The "normal" level of gear in this case would be like the LP Studio, which will get you about 90% there.

That said, there is definitely a discernible difference between the R9 and the Traditional in finish, feel, sound, and *mojo*. To me, there is enough of a difference between the two I have that I will keep them both. I will always gig with my '92 Studio, using the Trad *only* if it is a very special secure gig, but propbaly will never ever gig with the R9. The R9 will be my recording byatch, as it has the *best* neck, feel, and mojo that I've ever experienced in an LP.

Even from the pics below you can see the subtle and not-so-subtle differences between the two. Since the pics were taken of the R9, I polished 'er up, removing the VOS finish to make her shine! There was no way I could keep it VOS'd stiing next to the super-gloss Traditional!
