Multi Selecting Take Lanes, holding Ctrl then clicking a Lane's Mute button doesn't...

...actually mute all the Takes.

This is part of my workflow so I'm curious if this is something that has been corrected in followup patches (I'm on C) or if the Take Lanes Multi Select does not allow this for some reason. I figure it should behave the same way Multi Select on tracks works.

Any thoughts? Cheers.

It's not corrected in later patches (I'm on E). And for that reason I use the Solo buttons instead. +1 to the suggestion.

I assume the design rationale is that you're going to be listening to at least one take, so if you solo that, the others mute.

I'm with Beeps on this one...  If I want to listen to two out of ten takes, more than one time through, each of the "other" take lanes needs to be muted individually.   Not a big deal for a single track, of course, unless it's done repeatedly...

Okay, I see what you're saying. Yes, this is a limitation when you want to use Take Lanes for non-comping applications. I don't think there's a workaround.

After getting use to comping on the take lanes, I find it very well thought out for that purpose. Once you get the hang if it, it's very fast to go through a lot of takes to get to the single comp.

I have come up with different work methods using the present take lane system that I would have never done before as easy.

IOW, take lanes; I love 'em!!

Yeah, sorry guys. Re-reading my OP I really did not state my case properly. Kind of rushed it and didn't think about what I was typing.

Steve's got it. Here's my personal situation and it actually does apply to comping mode as I track.

My current writing style kind of reflects how I used to write before I had a DAW.

Basically I'll be plunking around on my guitar or bass and if something sounds like I want to use it I'll record it. Then I'll figure out what part I think I want it to be (Intro, Verse, Chorus, etc but usual it's the intro or the first main riff/theme) and place it approximately where that type of part would go on the timeline and build around it. However first takes, especially in the writing phase, aren't very solid and as I play the part over and over again I'll tweak things like little bits of ornamentation, lead ins to the next riff, chord qualities, etc. So the takes add up. I like to bounce around listening back to the different ideas then settle on the final version of the riff that I want to use and try to nail it. Still as the song moves on I might want to try one of the earlier ideas or use one of the earlier takes elsewhere in the song (I hate simply repeating the EXACT same riff every time so having variations is cool). I prefer to use the Take Lane Mute buttons instead of the clip mute during this process because it's just a little easier for me but becomes almost imperative when I start moving on to other parts.

So now I've got a bunch of takes of one specific riff. Once I start working on another section I repeat that process so I've got another pile of takes at a different point in the timeline on the same track. If I used the solo button then the takes I did of the first riff I wrote would be silenced. As you can imagine after working out a whole song this way the takes REALLY add up so being able to quickly multi select all the takes I want to mute (or solo) would be very useful.

This ties in with my other FR thread about options for hiding lanes. It would be real nice to hit a quick key binding to hide all the lanes not currently being used in the parent track to free up screenspace as I write. This is particularly a problem for me when I'm recording two tracks at once which I pretty much ALWAYS do because of the dual output of my Line6 head. Once the takes build up and I want to mute a previous take manually after a certain point I am scrolling a loooong time to get to that second track. I need to try out the new feature that creates edit groups within folders but I don't think the mute buttons would be affected by that... so maybe that would be another nice option.

Basically the Multi Select function on Take Lanes should work the same as they do with tracks IMO. It would be ever so helpful for me.

    Cheers.

Oh and although I could switch to another mode while tracking which might make some of my writing/tracking quirks a little easier I like using comping mode instead because I can easily do quick edits to reveal and mask parts I want/don't want with having to screw around with 2 seperate takes on two separate tracks.

Yes I may be a little odd but it works and X3 has been REALLY great for my style of writing. It just needs a couple extra tweaks (that I think are logical) to make it perfect.

Maybe I should start a thread about how people approach this type of tracking while writing. Perhaps people have some methods that might help me speed things up even more because I know I'm missing some tricks.
