Multi clips frustration

Using splat, sometimes, not always, but sometimes when I paste repeating clips in a track near each other they become "multi" and in the clip properties , length now says "multi" and clip linked now says "multi" and you cant see the clips start time. Also if I try to move the clip, it takes a part of the clip it was beside or slightly overlapping, so now the clip is not as it began because it has some part of the other clip attached. I can find anything in the help about this and its a pain. When it happens Ive had to go into history and go back, and put clips on alternating tracks so they dont touch and get into this multi situation. Yesterday it was audio clips, not sure if midi have every done this.  How can I make this stop? Thanks, treesha
