Multi track drum parts

I want to have separate tracks for  the bass drum, snare, Hat, etc, primarily so I can apply different EQ to each instrument in the drum kit.

MY question is if I need to use a new/different instance of session drummer for every track/every instrument in the kit (which is what I'm doing now which is also  the first time i have tried this) or if I can get away using only 1 instance of the drum program

    Hi there.

You only need one instance of Session Drummer to do this - just make certain that you select either All Synth Audio Outputs (either the Mono or Stereo options) on the Insert Soft Synth Options screen:

Then open the Mixer on the Session Drummer GUI and you can route the output of each drum to a separate track.

Even easier is to right click on the track area and select Insert from Track Template -> Soft Synth Track Template -> Session Drummer 3. That will load all the individual drums in their own track, all within a folder, and with proper names and icons.

Core i5, 8GB, Win 8 64bit, X2 Producer, Focusrite Forte, bunch of guitars, 12 notes.

If you have SD3 already inserted, you can create your own tracks and route the different outputs to each track you create. There should be buttons on SD3 that enable the different outputs. When you find those, just choose the inputs of SD3 on the tracks you created.

Let me try to summarize the 3 responses into 2 methods to see if I'm understanding everything.

    1. Loading the Template create tracks for each instrument in the drum kit. Going with this technique means the midi data for each item in the kit is placed in the appropriate track/ each tack will contain only midi info for one instrument in the drum kit.  I then can apply efx at the level of each track.

    2. In the SD3 Mixer, the bottom most control is a track assigner. It seems to only have values of 1 - 12. When i saw these controls I thought they were audio outputs since they are in the mixer and these are the key to the second approach

    Here's where i'm not sure.
If this control routes the sound output of SD3, then I can keep all the drum instruments in the same midi track, correct?
The tracks I then select for output from the SD3 mixer would have their  input set set for  ??? (I'm thinking the answer to this will be obvious once I get to this point, but any info would be helpful)
But I can then at this level apply efx for each of the tracks

Am I "on the right track" with my understanding?

#2. Yes. Those are the numbers of the audio outputs. You just have to create tracks for and input in the created tracks the output of SD3. If you already have SD3 going and don't want to hassle with starting over with re-inserting it in the synth rack. You won't have to mess with the midi track's outputs this way.

Using the template is good as well. I would use that for future projects.
