Multi-Timbral Fantom VS

If I want to use the Fantom VS on several channels—for example, three different instrument sounds on three different MIDI channels—how do I set it up?  Only one instance can run at a time.  Thanks.

I figured it out BUT there is a problem.

I inserted Fantom VS with a stereo audio track and a MIDI track.  Then I cloned the MIDI track to create a total of 3 MIDI tracks (although i could have done up to 16).  Then I clicked on each MIDI track to open the Fantom and selected a number from 1 to 16 for the MIDI channel and then selected the patch.

    PROBLEM:

Whenever I select a patch for the Fantom, I get this message:

    Unable to read/write data.
Choose Help - Fantom VS Editor Manual, and refer to 7.  If the display indicates 'Unable to read/write data'>

I have no idea what this means or what manual is referenced.  No idea why I am getting this message.

    Hi konradh,

We recently posted an updated installer for the Fantom VS and ARX Editors. You can find this on our website here: http://www.cakewalk.com/S...reader.aspx/2007013246

Can you try running this installer to see if it alleviates any issues you are having with the Fantom VS?

Obviously only install editors for the hardware you physically have, otherwise you will get error messages when running the VST Scanner :)

If you are still running any problems, please fill free to give Technical Support a ring or send over an email. Contact info can be found here.

I have the Fantom set up to receive from three midi controllers. It's all regulated by the Midi page in the Fantom editor. I guess you figured that out. Point the inputs of the desired channels in the Fantom to the output channel of  the Midi device. When ever I make a Fantom project I just insert 16 Midi tracks. 1 track for each channel. Then you can set up your instruments per track and input channels per channel. You can hide the ones you're not using with the track manager. If you want to add an instrument later to the project you will already have a track for it.
