Multi-monitor setup... veritcally?

Hi! I have an Argosy desk that simply doesn't have the real-estate for two wide-screen monitors set up side by side. Anyone know of a way to set them up vertically? I've never really seen it done. Any other ideas of how to set up multiple monitors if you can't do it the 'normal' way side by side?

Yea, i have a stand that can hold up to 2 24" wide screen monitors.
Its brand new, i got it because i wanted to see how it would look, but i like them side by side better.

Im not using it, as my Sterling Desk has enough real estate to fit my 2 monitors.

Wanna buy it. Ill make you an offer, you cant refuse :)

You can set them up however you want them, the way they are set virtually doesn't have to relate to how they are set up physically at all. Having said that moving the mouse off the screen to the right to see it appear on the monitor to the left might be a bit unintuitive, but it is possible if you want to.

There's no reason you couldn't have say a Console View on the top monitor and Track view on the bottom or any other views for that matter. Setting them up is really easy, via the Windows display properties but there are plenty of third party multi monitor options. I use Display fusion for more advanced options.

You can also have them so your mouse pointer goes to the above screen when you move it upwards.
Just set it up that way in display property settings. I found that out here when confronted with the same query. Thanks to Jimbo88 for that tip Here was his quote

Im pretty sure you can make the mouse go up and not right in windows by arranging your monitor setup.

    desktop>right click>personalize>Display settings

then you drag/stack your monitors to wherever or however you want them.

I have limited real estate to the left and right, so I have my monitors mounted vertically. Actually, the second one is on a wall mounted shelf just behind and above the first one.

It is possible to set up your Windows display options to drag windows up and down between the two screens. At first I was dragging windows to the right to get them on to the top monitor, which was a little disconcerting, but that got solved.

I don't remember the details, but I think in XP, you can select you monitor placement configurations from among sevreal choices. In Windows 7, it is actually easier if not as obvious immediately - at least it wasn't to me. You actually drag the second monitor above/below/right/left of the first to get the placement you want.

    It works for me!

I just picked up a monitor stand that does the job nicely.  www.ergolcd.com.  Call them up though, don't buy direct online.  The sales guy gave me a price that was about 60% of what was posted online.  They also helped ensure I got exactly what I was after.

You can drag the virtual monitors anywhere you want them, so one above the other is fine. The mouse will automatically respond to how you have them set up. Remember to "Extend desktop to this monitor" - or something like that.

This is what I sold him for less than half that price listed.

Hey guys! Yea, CJ gave me one heck of a deal. (I seriously can't believe those things are so pricey...) I've seen options in W7 that lets you choose a lot of preferences when setting up your monitoring. I'm pretty confident that it'll work for me. Pretty excited to have another monitor :) Thanks for all your input. Hopefully it helps others as well who have little to no horizontal real-estate on their desk.

Any ergonomic specialist would tell you this is a really bad idea.  You're going to put a huge strain on your neck muscles if you spend a lot of time looking at the higher monitor.  The top of your monitor should be more or less at eye level.  So, I'd approach this quest with a good deal of caution.

Be aware that there is a bug in the Softube plugs that will cause the graphics to screw up if you have an up and down monitor configuration as you have done with the taskbar on the bottom monitor. I spent a bunch of time tracking this down with them. It is supposedly going to be fixed in the next release but we shall see.
