Multiple Side-Chained Gates or Compressors

Hi everyone.

My question is around using the same audio trigger for more than one side-chained effect.

I've read the following articles and couldn't find answers:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb08/articles/sonar_0208.htm

http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013049

and also had a look through this forum which is why I decided to post here!

Basically, I'm trying to use the Sonitus Gate for some side-chain gating on my drums and I've done that!

What I want to do now is use another Gate to side-chain my pads.

I've got the drums and pads all going to a separate BUS and I drop the effects I want to use on those busses.

I also created a separate side-chained trigger with no audio output so that it has a regular tick so that my side-chain gate doesn't stop when say the kick drum or whatever you'd use, drops for a bar or so, that way I keep the gating going so that's all good!

However, on any track or bus, you can only route to one other output so how do I use my side-chain trigger track on another one or even two gated effects?

Perhaps I'm doing this all wrong but I basically want to fine tune the gating separately for the drums and pads differently, hence why I want more then one side-chain effect.

I have seen other effects like the LFO Tool that allow you to use the trigger input from the MIDI clock so this isn't an issue with that tool but the Sonar effects don't seem to allow any other triggering than an audio input - unless I'm not looking in the right place!

This does look like an awesome tool but for now I would rather use as much of the in-built tools before going and buying external ones as I think Sonar has a lot of unexplored potential without resorting to external products.

I've been scratching my head with this one.

I did think about using the track/bus sends but that would still limit me to only two effects.

Anyone done this?  I'm sorry but I'm relatively new to using Sonar as a producers tools so I've limited experience here as I've been using it more from the musicians side for years as a MIDI sequencing and basic recording tool - like a tape deck actually!

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Rick.

You can route a track to an unlimited number of destinations, by adding aux sends.

Right-click on the track header and select "Insert Send". Any sidechainable plugins will show up on the list of possible destinations.

    Hi there.

Thanks, I'll give that a go now!  That's almost obvious really...

Would you say that's the best way to be going about this?

I don't know of any other way to do it, actually.

Thanks again as that works a treat.

I don't know why I just didn't try clicking there first!  I suppose that's what happens when you've come from a real hardware environment, what you see is what you get but in a virtual world, I suppose the sky's the limit!

Well, it's nice to know that I managed to partly work something out for myself but I also just wanted to make sure that there wasn't an easier way to go about setting up multiple side-chained effects.

    Cheers!
