Multi-song demo mix - suggestions please!
Good day! I'm a newb - some quick background: I just purchased an Allen and Heath Zed R16, which came with Sonar LE. I immediately upgraded to Sonar Studio X2 and I've spent hours pouring over the videos in Cakewalk University and various documents (.pdf files) in an effort to get my system up and running and trying to understand what I'm doing. There's a lot to take in, but I'm determined to keep at it! So... I'm a guitarist and just hooked up with a female singer and we're going to be doing an acoustic duo. We need to record a demo to get gigs. What is the most efficient way to use Sonar Studio X2 to create a stereo demo that will feature bits of about 8 songs that segue (fade in, fade out) one into another? Each song will have at the most 4 tracks - acoustic guitar, vocals, and tambourine or shakers. This is probably an easy first project, but any and all helpful suggestions are welcome. Thanks so much!

Welcome and you went a good way to start with the ZED and X2. FastBikerBoy-Karl has some great videos on everything from setup to How-Tos and is using the ZED as well. Check out his stuff, he is here in the Forum As far as the Demo Recording-It is just that simple. If you are wanting to do 8 or so songs Id do them individually as Projects and then once you happy with what you have, Import all the finished Wave Files into a new project and slip edit out what you dont want and then add your fades. If you put each song on its own track, its much easier to figure out where you want the songs to line up and fade in and out. Once you have that then just export it as a 44.1/16 Wave File

Hey, thanks so much! I had some idea of how I was going to do it, but I certainly didn't think of that. I import the wave files of a complete song, load it into a stereo track, and slip edit. I think I understand all of that. So, (forgive the basic question here) can the snippet of a song that is left visible after slip editing be moved around, like it was a clip? That would be perfect, allowing me to pick and choose the most dynamic bits of the different songs to feature. Hey, thanks for the video links, too! I see I still have a lot of homework to do. :)

When I do it I try to find the part of the song (Snippet) that will showcase/capture all of the bands stand out points . Kinda where the Drums, Lead Vox and Lead guitar come together but everyone still recognizes the song right off the bat Once you have the songs all broke down to each little snippet-drag them together on one track or line them up on there own tracks. Either way, when you export it will put them into one wave file/song. Just listen to it a few times before to make sure the alignment is what your after
