Multitrack recording from analog and digital sources

ok... I haven't been able to wrap my mind around a solution so here's what I want to do.
I have both an 80-8 and 3340 analog tape decks. I have an ADAT SVHS deck. I have X1 Producer
I want to get this stuff into a SONAR project.
I don't want to record two tracks X 4 and then wild synch everything up as the original 8 or 4 track.
I want to be able to use the adat digital out to record.
SO... I need an interface to SONAR that will allow 8 simultaneous analog OR adat/digital tracks to record at the same time in SONAR. Is this even doable?
Firewire? multiple sound cards? MOTU? I heard the Octo...thingy was a good choice... But I'm not sure it is EVERYthing I'd need.  I'm even about to look at buying a new desktop...
anyways... What are my missing pieces so I can get going on this project?  I'm running out of time... (old ya know) and want to get all this archived before I croak...
Your tips are appreciated :)
THANKS!
Rick

HI. If you have the Alesis card for the ADAT, you might be able to use that + lightpipe to get the 8 tracks from the ADAT into Sonar..

As a old guy my self ,and after tons of experiments the best (under 1000.00$)is the MOTU 828MK3, IT DOES HOOK UP TO ADAT,optical, works as a stand alone mixer,I have transfered all my old tascam reel tapes, svhs and yes even some 8track done in the 60's.best part about the motu is it doesn't rob from the computer memory and processing like the less expensive one do(tascam us1641) also the motu has its own midi +usb+firewire, sinks to mtc, smpte, word.check it out on line..pricing varies from country and store.

I dumped all my 80-8 tapes to digital once but forget how I did it.
That said, you haven't specified what your computer or operating system or budget is. Reason I say this is that you could maybe get away with a used RME 9652 or something (16 channels adat). However, this card won't work in a 64 bit environment. But then, it comes down to, how are you going to route 8 analog outs to 8 adat ins?

    ASUS P8P67, i7-2600K, CORSAIR 16GB, HIS 5450, 3 Samsung SSD 850, Win7 64, RME AIO.
