Music Creator 2993 Recording Questions

Edit: Sorry for the typo in the header this is for Music Creator 2003

1. Can I record with the line in (guitar) and the mic (voice) at the same time on 2 different tracks?

2. If not, can I get a Y adapter and split the input to left and right and record guitar on left channel and voice on the right channel at the same time on 2 different tracks? Or 2 guitars one on the left channel and the other on the right channel at same time on 2 different tracks?

3. Do I need a preamp with either of thes set ups?

4. Should I use line in or mic input?

thanks,

ljoe

Music creator allows 2 live inputs at the same time. How you get it in will depend greatly on the interface/sound card you are using.

A factory card will generally only support ONE input at a time... a Y cord...although not the best option would let you input 2 things into the one input.... results.... iffy at best.

A better option is to use a small mixer to get the 2 or more instruments in... but again..only on one channel with a factory card.

depending on the mic or instrument pickup, you might need a preamp. Most decent interfaces (external USB) have nice pre's in them.

Line in for instruments and mic for mics.... but it also depends on the signal level.  I will switch between the two choices for my guitar depending on the signal level from the POD...

Right. But recording a guitar and a mic at the same time with the stock sound card won't give you the best results.
In the Windows mixer, you can choose line in or mic in for the single stereo input you have. If you select line in, the mic input level will probably be too low.
If you choose mic in, the guitar may be way too hot.
But if that was the only way I had to do it, I would pick mic in, and try to keep the guitar level low.
    A mixer will help immensely.
So will a better audio interface with selectable input options for the 2 channels.
Or just record each one at different times.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.

Or just get a cheap and easy mixer. Not as good as Greg's suggestion, but will work. connect the mixer to line in and run the mike to one channel, and the guitar to another.  http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-Xenyx-802-103845053-i1153499.gc    If you have a GC near you these are sometimes on the sale rack. They had the 1202 near me the other day for $39

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!
