Music Creator 4 PC Vista install problems

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse. I was just wondering if my 2003 (I know it's old) will work with Vista. I've had it for a long time and now that I have a new PC. I wanted to install it on Vista. BUt It says to install DirectX8 and I did...Not to hard to do sense it walks you through it. I restarted my pc and same thing pops up just after I click the install button.
It's the weekend so I wont know what the techs will have to say on Monday.
Or if their is a place to D.L. MC for pc. I just retrived my serial # and now that I want to get it installed I can't. :(
Thanks again
Mike

    Hi Miguel

Before you upgrade, you could try running MC 2003 in Vista with Administrator privileges and in Compatibilty Mode for whichever version of Windows it was designed to work in.

I run Vista (SP1) and have MC 24 Pro (2004) working perfectly in compatibility mode for XP (SP2)

    Hope that helps

    Steve

Yeah, try right-clicking the MC icon on your desktop. Click 'Properties' and the 'Compatibility' tab. Check the "Run this program in compatability mode for:" box and select 'Windows XP'. It may look a little different in Vista, but it's there somewhere.

I have had Cakewalk Music Creator 2003 installed on my Vista since I first got my Vista about a year ago. I have had no problems. It functions exactly the same as it did on my XP. I did have to run the Direct-X install utility (available on the Music Creator Website) but then I had to do that with XP too. I also had to run the install as 'administrator'.
    DirectXUtility can be found here:

    Good luck.

I wouldn't, in case you need to reinstall it sometime; saves you the trouble of finding it again.

Try changing the driver mode to MME. In MC, at the top, 'Options>Audio', find the driver mode, it probably reads WDM/KS now. Change it to MME, close and re-open MC, let the wave profiler run and see what happens.

ok I found the probem. The mixing latency was set to fast. it's about 3 mm close to the fast.....is the faster the better setting or the safe?

    m-audio fast track

Where did that come from? Didn't you write that you have a C-Media audio card?
Okay, with the M-Audio, you should go to the M-Audio site and make sure you have the latest drivers. If you need to download the driver and install, do so.
Then in MC, you should be able to use the ASIO driver with the Fast Track. The MME driver is the slowest, least effeicient driver available, and when using that driver, you'll need to use the 'safe' latency setting to avoid pops, clicks and dropouts.
The ASIO driver is faster and more efficient, and should deliver latency in the 10 ms range without problems, depending on the way you have your system set up.
Once you go to 'options>audio' and change to ASIO, you may have to run the wave profiler again, if so, let it, then check that the recording and playback masters have the Fast Track listed and highlighted. Deselect anything else on the list.
