Music Creator 4 - TTS-1 and GS Wavetable synth

Hi,

I'm new to Music Creator and also to forums. I'm also running old software, so I humbly ask your patience..

I installed MC4 on Vista laptop (HP). The soundcard is the factory installed Conextant High Definition Audio (as far as I can tell). Anyhow, following Tutorial 1 I can only get sound when I define the track outputs as GS Wavetable. Tried installing TTS-1 as in the book, pointed track outputs to TTS-1, pointed synth track output to Internal speaker/headphones and then nothing on playback. Switching all tracks to GS Wavetable however gives me that lovely tinny microsoft sound.

So I know it's been asked before but the answers I read seemed rather confusing -  is there a simple explanation on how I can get to use TTS-1 on playback?

Other info - the only midi output device I can check on Options-Midi devices is GS Wavetable, and I'm using driver mode MME (32 bit). Run Wave Profiler with this setting.

Thanks.

Thanks Beagle. Sorry for the lack of response, I've been in hospital, then holiday, then work got the better of me... back now. Checking out guitarhacker's site. Looks straightforward but not feeling over-optimistic just now. I'll let you know how I get on but don't hold your breath...

the big thing is you will probably want to get a decent USB sound card/interface. The factory card is not very good.

the info on my site will help you but the sticking point for you will be the sound card.

What other options do you have for track output than Internal speakers/Headphone? Your soundcard, fo example?

GS Wavetable being the only MIDI output device option you see is due to the  fact that it's the only one you have.

So you have MIDI track output to TTS-1 and audio tracks input TTS-1 and output to Speakers?

(When you describe your routing and workflow, it's essential to tell which tracks are MIDI, which are audio).

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

    Thanks for the messages guys.
Guitarhacker - yes I'm realising the limitations of both the (ancient) laptop and the soundcard it came with. Finances are way tight just now but I'm going to have to bite the bullet. I suspect it will mean a new laptop with pro-soundcard as there's no way this clunky monster will get a new card fitted. It was fine for eveything I was doing before but this was never in my original spec.
Kalle  - will try the soundcard option, especially as I had what my kids kindly refer to as a 'senior moment' with a sidebar widget left on holding onto the soundcard mic input earlier!

So having managed to record some guitar via mic the results were unspectacular, the metronome beat was dragging before I started to play and the playback was simply dreadful. The 'phasing' (there's probably a better way of describing it but it's getting late!) on playback was cured somewhat by switchng off the record button on the track but still got a slowdown on playback. Trying to record a second track resulted in the return of the phasing and no chance of palying two parts in sync.

Time to go back to rtfm I think and figure out a way of financing a new set-up.

Thanks again. 'Persevere' is the motto of the good city of Leith so that's what I'll do.

hey terry, I don;t think you understand completely.... the new sound card is a USB based external interface... it doesn't go inside the lappy. an older lappy will work ok generally, as long as it has a USB port open.
