Music Creator 5, Vista and latency

I've been running Music Creator 5 on my laptop for sometime and I have intermitant latency problems.
How does one go about eliminating latency?

are you using your laptop's onboard soundcard?  if so, you might not be able to reduce your latency without upgrading your soundcard (there are externals available for firewire and USB).  if you want to check my recommendations on soundcards, click on my website link in my signature.

you can try to reduce latency using your onboard soundcard by downloading and installing ASIO4ALL (google it).  then changing your driver mode to ASIO in MC.  OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVER MODE = ASIO (then click APPLY)

Are you using ASIO drivers? If so then what setting are you using in the USB units mixer window.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

If you are using the incorreect driver, they are not efficient and they will cause problems. The right drivers will solve the problems IF it is a driver issue.

the yamaha audiogram doesn't have drivers of its own.  it uses the standard windows USB sound codec.

moeman.  i hate to tell you this, but you bought the wrong soundcard.  those yamaha audiograms are not worth their money, IMO.

you might be able to reduce your latency by downloading and installing ASIO4ALL (google it) and then change to ASIO driver mode.

if that doesn't solve your latency problems then I suggest you try to get your money back on the audiogram and get a better soundcard.  check my website for some recommendations.

can you take it back and "trade up"? many times...... if you talk with the right person at the store, they will let you return it past the 30 or 45 day return period (usually only by a few days though) especially if the new interface costs more.....

A good interface is the MOST critical part of your studio IMO. Do what you need to do to get a good one. If the Yamahammer is past the return period.... sell it on Ebay and move on to a decent interface. Don't let a crappy interface stop you.
