Music Creator 6 MIDI device issues.

Alright, so I just got Music creator 6 a few days ago and I cannot for the the life of me get my MIDI device to work with it. The device shows up in the preferences, but when i select it and click apply it just resets the setting like i did'nt even select it in the first place. The Device is an edirol UM-1ex if that helps. Thanks in advance.

    welcome.

Is the Midi device (a keyboard or controller) USB or traditional 5 pin midi?

It shows up as a midi device in the midi options available for input to MC6?

Be sure the midi device is transmitting on omni or if it's a specific channel.... be sure the midi input is set to receive on that specific channel.

Be sure you have the midi output in the track set to the soft synth you wish to have reproduce the sound.

Be sure a patch or sample is loaded into the synth.

My website has some info on the MUSIC & Recording page..... which still applies to MC6. It might help you to understand midi if you are new to it.

If you select INSERT SYNTH, and choose the Cakewalk sound center, AND if the keyboard is on omni..... it should give you sound. That is one synth that comes up in my system running as soon as it loads.

Having a dedicated sound card or USB interface will be to your advantage too..... using a factory sound card in a built in lappy is not the best way.

    Welcome to the forum.
Did you visit the Roland web site and download the UM's drivers for your operating system?

What keyboard do you have connected to it?
Are the plugs connected in to out and out to in?

Okay. Thanks for your replies. Guitarhacker, the interface is usb, so there's that. I'm going to try what you said about soft synth and Cakewalk sound center. 57Gregy, i tried switching the input/output, but that seemed to make the problem worse, but thanks for your help anyway

it's usually just a matter of settings. Once you figure it out, it'll work every time.
