Music Creator 6 X P Vista edition …problem solved …thanks guys for helping me out
Hi Guys , I purchased Music Creator 6 for my XP machine and I followed everything to the t …exactly as instructed by the PDF ... I downloaded everything in order …created a folder on my Windows 8 machine on my desktop and as each section of the download finished I right clicked in Mozilla to show package contents and moved the newly downloaded files in to my desktop folder marked Music Creator 6…. when everything was done downloading I copied the desktop folder of Music Creator 6 on to my external storage drive and placed the folder on my Windows X P computer right on the desktop as per the instructions from the PDF ( my XP machine was my main DAW until I recently upgraded and it hasn't seen the net in years ) I go to install the program and it unpacks the RAR and creates a subfolder within the Music Creator desk top folder when I go into that folder and hit the set up file the dialog box asks me for my language i hit OK for English and then nothing happens ….everything stops there …the program install doesn't even seem to launch after that step what do I need to do here ? I would like to put the Music C…6 on my XP machine ….. I don't want to have to throw 20 bucks away ... the specs an my XP computer are , P 4 , 2.67 GHz , XP Home Edition SP 2 and enough ram …. Help …LOL Kenny

If XP is the OS and the program is not made for it, then I doubt if it can be installed. They changed things in OSes from XP to Vista and maybe an old program will work in compatibility mode in Windows 7, Vista, perhaps even Windows 8, but programs are made for a specific OS otherwise no one would ever need new software, and although hardware changes also and is included in OSes so does the way a program is programmed for a new OS system. In other words, there is no way to do it, if it does not work correctly off of the get-go. The installer is probably different and so is the program using newer instructions not recognized by an old CPU or OS. Although there are times when an old program will work with a newer computer, certain guidelines have to be followed and usually after awhile many of those don't work either anymore. But not a newer program working on an older computer - ain't gonna happen.

hi spacealf , thanks for taking the time to offer your feedback I do get what you are saying and I have found through experience that I can pretty much agree with you . the thing is , the edition of Music Creator 6 I purchased was the XP Vista edition …. here's the link from the store Windows XP & Vista - Music Creator 6 (Download)http://www.store.cakewalk.com/b2cus/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=10-CWMC6.00-30E I really want this program to install on my XP computer …. on my XP computer the highest version of SONAR is SONAR 6 PE I thought it would be a good idea to get Music Creator 6 for my XP machine . By adding M C 6 I thought I could add a couple of things over from the X3 environment ... The Matrix sounds like fun . Plus I would like to be able to have the DropZone , Studio Instruments and the Cakewalk Music Center available to me on a machine that has been my main music computer for years…. many of the programs that I have on my XP DAW are no longer supported ex Project 5 … it runs great I can rewire it w SONAR 6 …... I have a bunch of licensed to me software that is period correct for my machines OS and age . I did the math and to upgrade all my software to run on W 8 is not where I can go right now I do have a lap top that is Windows 8 ..this machine has SONAR X3 d PE on it , and I can see no real benefit of putting Music Creator 6 on that computer since all the things that come w M C 6 I already have from SONAR X3 …. I honestly don't know if the version of MC 6 i bought would even install on my W 8 computer ... I don't know what to do here , I don't like these type of problems I know it's only 20 bucks , and I hope someone from Cakewalk can help me sort this thing out ... Kenny

I'm running MC, 4,5,6 & X1 on XP pro so it will install and run perfectly. Are you starting the install by right clicking the icon and select run/install as administrator? Try that and see if it makes a difference. I seem to recall that being a topic in the past.

Hi Herb , thank you for trying to help me …I appreciate it … I've downloaded this program 2 times ….a total of more than 6 hours wasted I've unpacked it a number of times and it keeps hitting the same snafu every time the installer will unpack the RAR and then when I got to install it from the setup icon it will show me english i hit OK to install and then absolutely nothing happens I tried to right click and do an install as an administrator …that don't work either ..it gets denied so I create a password for my main acct and it goes back to english hit OK and nothing happens I have never used a password on this computer so I deleted the password …. I'm absolutely feed up with this whole installation experience ….I've gotten no place and I have wasted a full half a day plus ... it only serves to reinforce that I do not ever want to buy Windows software as a download only … I'm not cool w it on any level …I much prefer to have the disk and I've always payed extra just to have the disk sorry about rant …..I know you are trying to help me Kenny

I worked from a DL copy on MC6. Tech support should be getting back to you shortly. Let us know what they recommend and if it works.

Kenny - IME this might be a problem with security settings. XP is not nearly as bad as Vista regarding security settings, but it still could be the problem. first make sure you have all virus scanning programs disabled during the installation. they can interfere, especially Norton (which I despise). if that doesn't work, I'd try starting your computer in SAFE MODE and then try to install the program there.

Well, if it is made for XP then it should install mmmmmmmmmmm........................... MC4 was the last version I installed for myself in XP, but I rather have the DVD or CD whatever the disk is. I have Sonar 7 also which was no problem, either one.Ya, if there is an anti-virus then that should be off while downloading and installing actually. If you have updates, perhaps you need Service Pack 3 for XP and XP support ends by April 2014. So if you do not have that, I would install it, because I had all the updates and not the same software and disk but no problem at all installing the ones I have. You can get up the status after connecting local network and see if any thing weird is downloading while just sitting at the website for the download (and also Microsoft updates you may want to disable real-time protection while that is going on. If you have the anti-virus real-time protection off, I doubt if you will see anything coming across the Internet at either download website as long as it is not another download website but the actual websites. I never have, and sometimes that has to be done to insure that the software downloaded successfully. The most you may see is a few bits downloading to acknowledge that you are still on the website even if sitting there and when downloading a few bits to keep track of your computer being on the server to them. That is normal. Certain anti-virus programs may interfere with downloads, so even Microsoft says when downloading Windows Updates to turn off the real-time protection. Depends on which anti-virus program.

Kenny, I believe the issue is because your offline computer is running XP service pack 2. MC6 requires XP service pack 3. There are substantial differences between SP2 or below and SP3. The good news is SP3 is available on CD or as a download at Microsoft's website. I would be sure to get it before next month when Microsoft stops supporting XP. You may also be able to get SP3 through eBay or a computer service center. Jim Fogle

spacealf, Yes it did install ….I did have to go to Microsoft and update to service pack 3 ….also a bunch of other updates. that was the problem . I had this computer built for me , and back in it's day it wasn't cutting edge , it was solid upper middle of the road …. I'm one of those guys that never put his DAW on the net and this thing has outlived 3 other desktops and a lap top …..I'm fond of my baby …. thanks for helping out Kenny Kenny

Hi Jim, when I saw your post earlier today I said to myself this is probably the reason I'm having all theses issues with the installation . The actual link that I ordered MC6 didn't really have the system requirements listed ….it's no big thing I'm sure the whole time it was out front as a Music Creator version the system specs would come up …. I took your advice and updated my offline computer to SP3 . apparently that was the problem …. after updating all my stuff, MC6 installed with out incident it's a cool little program …I like it …. thank you for helping me out Kenny

Kenny, glad you got that worked out. SP3 really seasoned XP, and played a big part in its longevity. On somewhat of a side note, check the thermal paste between the CPU and the heat sink. That had all baked out of mine and was ultimately what did the old girl in. After 10 years of outstanding service, the P4 cooked itself to death. P4's are famous for running hot. Don't let it sneak up on you like I did .

Kenny, glad you got it installed and working. Yes it is a pretty neat program and I hope you continue to like it as much as I do. One more suggestion. Go to the groove3 website and consider their "Music Creator 6 Explained" video tutorial for $15 US. Even though I've used MC2, 3 and 4 the 28 videos still taught me many things I didn't know about Music Creator. I also like having the videos as a ready resource when I'm trying something new or want a refresher. The download is remarkably small (less than 600 megabytes) and very comprehensive.

Hi Robert , I'm happy things are working out . the truth is , if I didn't pick up MC6 for XP …….getting SP3 over here might not of happened …better late than never…. Yes, I am gonna heed your advice and look into the heat sink / thermal paste is this the type of maintenance you are suggesting I do ? http://www.frozencpu.com/resource/r8/How_to_Apply_Thermal_Paste.html if that is what you mean , that looks like something I could do , or more accurately should do as soon as I can .. thank you Robert Kenny

I'm posting this little blurb for anybody that happens to be interested On my XP machine Music Creator 6 actually out performs SONAR 6 PE …no joke , no lie …. here's how I found this out my default setting for opening midi files was SONAR 5 SE ….double click and the midi's open in SONAR 5 …. when ever I wanted to open them up in SONAR 6 PE I would do a right click and choose SONAR 6 now when I installed Music Creator 6 XP version I did a basic install and let it do it's thing ….. I'm very happy I did btw….. Music Creator 6 decided to associate my SONAR 6 projects as Music Creator projects …. at first I was like hey ….all my projects are now Blue looking MC icons instead of the Gold S 6 icons…. no biggie … I continued to right click and choose SONAR 6 PE if I wanted to open them up as SONAR 6 PE projects here's where it gets interesting ... one day I decide to see for myself …what will happen if I take a large project that had 30 + tracks of audio this song happened to be a song that I created in SONAR 6 PE and mixed in SONAR 6 (it is my current song over at the songs forum ) now, here's a statement of fact …. this tune had a thousand little edits and it used to choke my computer when I listened to the song play in real time while using SONAR 6 …. I would get blips, burps , audio hick ups , and my CPU was way into the red….. I opened the tune up using Music Creator 6 XP and I was shocked all my plugs were there and my CPU was hovering at half what it was when I opened the song up in SONAR 6 between 50 % to 65 % CPU I was like WHAT ? how can this be my song played in real time with out so much as a glitch of any sort ... OH yeah I was gonna keep that a secret …but hey, I said to myself why not share it here with you good folks so now I say to myself OK , lets find out what happens if I decide to work the other side of the street and open up Music Creator 6 XP projects in SONAR 6 PE….. what will happen now …... So I open up the Blues demo project and it was all pretty much there …all the audio and stuff was where it was supposed to be ….every thing came in a grey , meaning the track colors that were in MC 6 XP didn't make the trip... So now I say to myself …what would be the benefit of going from MC 6 to SONAR 6 ? then it became very clear to me …..after I started working up ideas and little musical snippets in MC 6 Music Creator 6 XP is very lean and easy to work in ….not a whole lot of BS and extra stuff to navigate around just a plain and simple user interface that does not get in the way of creating and developing musical ideas ... I also like the fact that it sees all my synths , loops and plugs …..also my P 5 Rewires into MC 6 no problem ... A very nice benefit is now I can use MC 6 XP as a musical scratch pad , when I have something I want to develop further I can just open the project in SONAR 6 PE and not be bound by any of the MC 6 limitations …. in plain english …I can export my mixes at 64 bits like I always do at some point I'm gonna see if Music Creator 6 touch behaves the same with SONAR X3 PE …in Win 8 I haven't had the time to check that one out yet …... anyway , I thought I would share this info here …... Kenny

That very thing..... being lean and not having lots of stuff to distract from the job at hand is what I really loved about the MC series of DAWs that I have.

they upgraded the audio engine in X1 and MC6 is based on that, so I would expect you to get the results you did.
