Music Creator 7

Hi guys, I have been away for a while. Was having too many problems with MC4 and windows 8. I upgraded to MC7 today. Its a lot different. I tried to insert the tts1 soft synth like I did before  and that worked. I just cant seem to change the instrument or the channel of each midi track. How do I change the instrument for each midi track that is associated with the tts1? I believe you can have 16 different midi tracks all assigned to different channels and instruments,
thanks

    Kevin, right?  How've you been?

ok, first thing you need to do is click on the track options.  it defaults to "minimal" but you need too see ALL track parameters.  the track parameter options is selected by two little icons above the track parameters near the top which has a single box for the default "low" parameters and has 4 boxes for the ALL parameters.

then you can see the INPUTS and OUTPUTS of each track which for MIDI will include Channel, bank and patch pull down menus.

image from another post with a big red arrow showing the location of the track options buttons. Click the one in blue.

hi, yeah its Kevin. I have been doing great. just music recording deprived. anyhow, I inserted the tts1. then I inserted a midi track. on the midi track I clicked on advanced like the picture of the 4 dots.  I then clicked on the thng that looks like a pallet white with black dots. I kept input at omni. not sure what that does. then I switched output to tts1. next was channel. I picked channel 1 for first midi track and 2 for second midi track. I left bank at none. not sure what thats for. then for patch I picked an instrument. for the second midi track I picked channel 2 and kept everything else the same except I changed it to another instrument.
AM I doing this the hard way or is this the right way?
Next I have to figure out the cakewalk sound center and how to pick different sounds and put them on different midi tracks and channels.. Brain fatigue. lol
thanks for your help Beagle and Scook

    you are doing it correctly.

as for Sound Center, it has MUCH better sounds than TTS-1 does, but it works differently.  TTS-1 is "multi-timbrel"  In other words, it allows more than one (it has 16) channels of different instruments you can use.

Sound Center is only ONE channel.  One input, one output.  you choose the patch in Sound Center and you can only have that one patch for your MIDI track(s).  (you can send multiple MIDI tracks to it, but you wouldn't want to do that except in the case of something like separate drum hits on different MIDI tracks or something like that).

so if you have, for example, a Violin and a Cello and you have them on separate MIDI tracks and you want, of course, the Violin track to play Violin sounds and the Cello track to send Cello sounds.  so you have to insert Cakewalk Sound Center one time for the violin, open the violin patch you want, then set the MIDI track to that Sound Center input.

then insert ANOTHER Sound Center and find the patch for Cello and send the Cello MIDI track to THIS Sound Center.

    hope that helps.

you are so awesome. I will try that when I get home from work. 1 more question. I installed my EZ Drummer on my computer  and my music creator 7 is not recognizing it. any ideas. in mc4 I installed it and then I would see it  as a soft synth or whatever it was considered. weird. maybe you have an idea. I put all my vst's in a folder and it does recognize those. just not EZ Drummer

Are you using the 64bit version of MC7? If so, you need to make sure to install the 64bit version of EZD. I am not sure copying the dll works for Toontrack plug-ins. I make sure when installing their products to specify the install locations.

ok, this might be a dumb question. How do I know if I am using the 64 bit version?

They are different installers and IIRC, Toontrack required the 32bit version before installing the 64bit version. So, if you only ran one installer, you have the 32bit version installed.

thanks Steve, I guess I have the 32 bit version because when I click on insert soft synth dfh sampler it says 32 bit. It says 32bit next to sound Center Kontakt and Kore player also.. Not sure how to make it 64 bit or if it matters.
I reinstalled my EZ Drummer and downloaded the updates as well as the updates for the expansion packs I have. When I insert the DFH track I click on the little keyboard and it opens Ezdrummer. The problem now is it says EZ Drummer cannot find the sound files. Reinstall Ez drummer or move the sounds to : the path to sounds is not set. I tried reinstalling and restarting but I get the same message. I feel like a beginner again. lol.
    thanks in advance

It matters. EZD 32bit does not run reliably in 64bit hosts. A good rule of thumb is "if a vendor makes a 64bit version of their plug-in use it instead of the 32bit version when running a 64bit DAW."

I am not current with EZD. The last version I bothered to downloadl was 1.3.3 and there were two installers in the zip file, one for 32bit and one for 64bit. IIRC, the readme was pretty clear about the install process.
