Music Creator For Dummies?

Does anyone know of a comprehensive, one-stop manual for Music Creator? Using the tutorial has proven frustrating and when I have, what for me, is a simple question, it takes waaaaaaaay too long to figure out an answer using "Help". Thanks.

The transition to computer has been frustratingly slow using only the tutorials and not having a manual with an index. I was just hoping that there was a way to get a manual or hardcopy of the tutorials that cut down on the time I have spent searching the Help index and then sorting through the results to find an answer.

There is not a manual for MC outside the help files. The closest thing to a manual for MC would be Scott Garrigus' Sonar 4 Power book. It covers a lot of stuff that does not come with MC, however, and if some function doesn't work, you have to figure out if it was a feature that was not included with MC.

He said the "Scott" word....how long 'till we hear from him?
There is a home recording for dummies book, and the link I posted the other day has a lot of info, but no one stop shopping at this time...I actually printed out the help files for my e-mu card and soundforge...took some time and effort, but that seems to be what is required these days. Cakewalk is NOT a plug and play item.

This forum beats the heck out of any book I've seen. Search on tutorial and Robo practically comes to your house to guide you through the process. Once you get that first track to record and playback you will be on your way.

Thanks.....I will attempt to use the Forum for my training. Here is my first question. I have recorded a drum pattern which I intend to use as a click track but need to set the tempo to match my drum pattern or vice versa. How do I do this? And if the answer is "See Tuorital # ?" that is cool too. Thanks.

Are you changing the drum track tempo, or the tempo of the song in general? If the drum track, is it audio or midi?

It's more of a timing question if I'm using it for a click track .... so that my measures add up when looped. Make sense? Thanks

Not at the m/c computer....but if you have the tempo pull down activated in your toolbar, you should be able to set the tempo to the same bpm (beats per minute) that your drums are mapped at. Not sure about a bpm calculator in m/c, I use another program for that, but there are external programs available for free, basically a plugin or maybe stand alone routine that can accomplish that. If you know the bpm, the best way to set the project up is to set the tempo when you first open a new project, before importing anything else, but it can be adjusted as needed.

One scary thing that can happen when you set the tempo after you lay down a drum track is if the drum trac \k is say 120 BPM and the default is 100 BPM in the program if you change the tempo in the program, the drum track will adjust to it and be off.

Here is what i would do, first detirmine what tempo the drum track is at, and look at the tempo box up near the transport bar. If it is the same great, if is it different does the drum beat end on the measure? get all this information and post back.

Export the drum track to your favorite media player. Open a new MC audio project. Open the metronome dialog box. Open the media player and play the drum track. Tap the mouse button in time to the song and that will give you an approximation of the song's time, set the MC metronome to that time, import the drum track back into MC.
There has to be an easier way!

what version? MC3? MC3 may or may not run on win2K. you will not get support from CW running on win2k and I have heard both where it works and where some have had problems.

what these other guys have told you is the best way to accomplish this...find the bpm, set it in a new project and import the click track. There are other ways, if you want to go into it, let me know, I'll try to talk you through "inserting a series o ftempos".

Looked at the time stamps, 5/8 is when Beagle said the "Scott" word, it took 3 days, 5/11 for a plug...I am so dissapointed.
We can only hope you had a good excuse, Scott...and none of that "busy writting a new book stuff".

I've read Scott say before over on the SHS forum that he wouldn't mind doing extra books for other CW products if he had time, but it's not up to him. the publisher decides.

I'm sure Scott can correct me if I've mis-paraphrased him!
