Music Creator Install crashes computer

I downloaded music creator 4 and when installing, it says that a certain file is corrupt(will have to install again to see which file). If I ignore, the installation continues then crashes my computer. I get a blue screen,(once again would have to check to see what the screen error actually is). I restart my Computer and the MUsicCreator4 Icon is on the desk top, when clicked it launches the program but quits out on the start up screen. I am running XP on a Dell Inspiron 6000. Has anyone seen this problem.

you'll have to contact Cakewalk about it.

I downloaded and tried to install MC4 last week and I got the exact same thing. I got a couple of files that the installation prog said were corrupt, I hit ignore since they appeared to be WAV samples rather than anything serious for the program and at the end the installation just crashed my computer totally.

Following a reboot, I tried again. No luck. I am currently waiting for someone at Cakewalk to get back to me but am curious to know if rford had their problem sorted out etc? I don't know if it's worth trying to download again in the event that my download was damaged - which is possible but strange that we should have the same experience?

does sound strange, but it's still a pretty low occurance. I don't know of any way to solve this problem without CW's tech support.

I tried re-downloading to see if it would make any difference (just in case the original download and been corrupted more than suspected) and when I tried the second time with the new download it failed on one of the same WAV files (something to do with a bumblebee) again (I cancelled at this point rather than continue).

I am going to try installing on another PC tomorrow, see how that goes.

It's quite frustrating. I am starting to think that I would have been better getting the boxed version.

I tried installing on a different PC and everything went fine with the exception of a missing WAV file. Sadly I can't use the software on the other pc (and is now removed).

This evening I got a reply from the Cakewalk Tech people and they supplied a link to a drivermode utility and the missing WAV file and I tried reinstalling with practically everything removed from my system's memory and everything went well. No blue screens or crashes.

GREAT FOR YOU! but it sounds like cakewalk knows about this problem and has a "patch" fix for it, huh? they should give that out to everyone and save a little of our time trying to solve problems for you that they already know exist!

This must be a problem associated with the downloaded version.
I didn't have a problem with the boxed version.

Beagle...you're right, cw should do the right thing!
But, we know their history when it comes to the MC versions.

Hello forum folks, Just experienced this problem with a boxed MC4 install. I get the splash screen, then a little Cakewalk taskbar message saying "scanning", then it just quits. No processes etc. running regarding Cakewalk. Tried uninstall, reinstall. No change. Tried a regedit delete sequence with uninstall, reboot and reinstall, and still no improvement. Funny thing is that it worked prior - no problems- and I'm wondering if a recent XP update "bit" something..

Agoz, is there a link out there with this patch?

I have the same problem with the boxed version bought at an electronics "super store". Has anyone posted a link to this patch yet? I can't even uninstall the program due to a corrupt .dat file. Very unimpressed so far...

I don't know of anyone who has posted this link, so I'm afraid you'll have to email tech support and wait for them to answer.

we would all appreciate it if you would post the link when you get it, tho!

Already, sent an email to tech support. I will post a link back here when I hear from them. Perhaps we could get a moderator to "sticky" it afterwards.

Thank you for contacting Cakewalk Technical Support. Please try the
attached reset utility. If that alone fails, please go to your Windows
Start Menu and click "Run". At the prompt,
    type or paste the following:

    %APPDATA%/CAKEWALK

This will open a folder in Windows Explorer. Find the folder named
"Music Creator 4". Right-click on it and choose "rename". Change
the folder's name to the following:

    "Music Creator 4 backup"

Launch Music Creator 4 again and allow it to recopy the application
    data.

Before you launch MC4. Please download this driver mode utility.
http://www.cakewalk.com/support/sonar/drivermode.zip You can use it to
launch SONAR in a different driver mode such as MME.

    I hope that helps.

    here http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/EMAIL.ASP

    Thank you.

This is what Cakewalk sent me, unfortunately none of it worked. The program still does not open. Still can't uninstall the "program". Lame.

thanks for posting that Mike, unfortunately, I don't know what else to try, so I'm afraid you'll have to contact them again and tell them it didn't work.

I had the same trouble and I used up my 3 tries. I emailed Cakewalk and got the same reply, and that didn't work. I ended up phoning tech support, who emailed me the progarm - tada! no problems with that and it's working fine. I think that it is corrupt wave files causing it the problem, and in fact the tech support guy said they had been having some problems with the MC4 download.

    Good luck

    Hi Folks

My first time in this forum.

I have the same install problem as well (ie some bumble bee.wav file being corrupt)
Looks like CW has not fixed the MC4 file corruption problem in their download web site. So every new customer has to go through this pain.

I have emailed the problem to CW Tech support and awaiting a response.

In the meanwhile appreciate if any of you could help

    Regards

    Viswa
