Music Gear Rental places in Boston?

To those who lives in Boston... do you know if there's any place that is specialized in music gear rental?

I need some good condensor mics for recording (haven't saved enough for what i want but still need to get things done), and some decent keyboard for live performance....

normal retail stores charge 10% of the original price... which is a little too much if you're thinking of renting something decent...

any help will be great appreciated!

There is not much point in renting mics these days, the good ones cost too much to rent and you can just buy OK ones for the same price. If you just need stereo get a pair of Studio Projects B1s and be done with it. I don't think you can rent anything better for $200.

That's insane.. I can rent a nice car for less then that. Like I said.. just buy a mic. I would still suggest the Studio Projects B1 for $99. most places. It's the best sounding mic in the $100 to $200 range. In fact you might have to spend $700 to get a noticable boost in quality. Some of the cheap mics are getting very good.

Spend $300 and get yourself a v69me. Then spend $80 and get a telefunken mic tube. You will have a GREAT tube mic that sounds damn near, damn near a U67 and it'll be yours. Or buy a Neumann, use it for the record and sell it on ebay. You'll be able to get most of the cost back(provided you don't ruin it) on ebay and it won't cost you even $100. You'll be able to pay down your credit card before the next bill.

BTW, those B-1s are absolutely killer for the cash. I've got 2 myself.

What everybody else said. By the time you rent something for a week or two you may as well have bought it. Rentals are for "one day" affairs-- you have a gig or a job to do and you need the item that day only. As dali lama points out, it doesn't really cost anything to buy a used mic, because you can re-sell it at the same price later. You're basically just paying the deposit to borrow it from a big communal pool of used gear.

    Cheers.

hehe, everyone is against the idea of "rental"!

Well... I actually ended up renting the Neumann TLM103 for $75 since i only need it for a a day "do or die" recording session... and we got things done!!!!

the mic is tiny but sounds very nice :)
