Hi cho-drummer, thats a great piece of work, very well played and sung. The very loud string squeaks on the acoustic are a bit distracting though.

Very Impressive. Did you do everything yourself ? The squeaky guitar strings at the beginning let it down a little bit. Nit picking I guess, but the standard is high enough to warrant sorting that little fault out IMO.

    Re:Music Video :D 2011/01/14 18:38:27 (permalink)
    Cheers guys!! :)

I'm a drummer by trade (my username probably gives that one away) I learnt this song on guitar because it was a challenge for me. I was actually just recording out of my GT-10 to test how well i was playing it in an effort to improve. After a few hours I thought I'd do a little cover, but, once I get an idea I usually take it to the N'th degree. Hence a full band recording and video.

I am playing everything in this, if you are interrested in my original work it can be found on www.facebook.com/chrisgallimoremusic there should be a band page tab on there where you can listen to what i've done. Unfortunatly I've only recently had the facilities to record live drums at home so the demos are programmed but I'll be re-recording live drums on them all at some point and making videos for them, once I have a few more covers under my belt.

The sqweeky guitar, I didn't really notice but I wasn't listening for it, now it's pointed out it's bugging me too. But, that's a limitation with my playing which I can't really get around at the moment, it'll come.

Oh and Radio, I've been playing for over 15 years now, still loving it and playing all the time. Thanks for the compliments on that :)

I am a massive Frost* fan. I went to the gig in Manchester and shot some video and pics which you can find on my 'other' youtube channel www.youtube.com/drumming12345
My flikr has the pictures I'm not sure of my link though, if there's a search on there, search for  'chris gallimore' or go on the frosties* forum and look at the 'manchester last night' thread.

    Cheers,
    Chris.

aha cool, yeah i saw them at the CRS awards nigth in Rotherham (they were rubbish!) but then also supporting DT in Leeds, at which they were great. The live Cd is very ggod with NDV drumming.
I am a big fan of It Bites and Kino too, love the current UK prog scene with Touchstone, the Reasoning, Tessaract, Haken, Spires, Pendragon, Chimpspanner etc
Here's hoping for more Frost* output in 2011!

This was such a great video and a great cover song.  And a top rate mix!  You tube is a great audio environment as well particularly with Hd viewing options.  Really impressed.

Chris were you video-songing (meaning were those actual clips of the recording sessions) or were they filmed after  for video only?  Reason I'm asking...is I didn't see any mics around the drums...and wondered how you got that great drum recording..it was as perfect as you can get..

Well done and look forward to seeing more of your work.

    Cheers

Ok, regardless of how hard people attack me personally? I believe this forum is "about music.." And I like this music. I would try to tame some of the acoustic squeaks in the beginning? It's hidden later on with the rest of the song. But it's all quite good actually?

Note, I care "about music..." Not bs... And this music is good.

    Actually? It's amazing.

    Flavio:
I recorded the audio first as the video idea was not even on the radar when I started this project, but, you'd be supprised to hear what I actually used on the kit, I'm sure.
I used an unbranded bass drum mic as I didn't have my D6 available (it was in work). I used a Wharfdale dynamic for the snare (one of those you get in packs of 3 for about £20) again, my M201 was at work. I used the same unbranded mics on the toms then as I didn't have a matched pair of mics for overheads, I just set up with mid-side about two feet infront of the kit at head height when I was sat down. Took a bit of processing, especially the bass drum, but it came out really well in the end!! :)

Robby, I'm not out to attack you personally. I was simply responding in a public fashion to something you sent me. I actually tried to PM you but the forum wouldn't allow it. Anyway, I hope you understand my points now and know where I am coming from musically.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

And everyone else who's responded so far, thank you so much, I love reading every single comment!! Its truly been a humbling experience posting this and seeing the responce. I didn't expect it!

    Thank you so much! :)

Hi Chris thanks for the response.  You might want to leave those other mics at work!! hahaha..cause you nailed the recording and processing on this one!!  I'm still struggling trying to get good separation with my drum mic set up.  I'm opposite of you...guitar player first..just getting to feel comfortable behind the drums in fact...I work on those para diddles till I puke!!

    Thanks again

" Anyway, I hope you understand my points now and know where I am coming from musically."

Like I said, the music was "amazing..." I love music? Music is my life, unfortunately it doesn't pay the bills... :-(

And I have to say? I hadn't listened to any of your music until this one? Because typically people who boycott me? I don't listen to their stuff :-( But sometimes, when a bunch of people gang up? And like somebody? Like you? I figure they might be pretty good... And you are. So listen to my music or not? Agree with me or not? I don't care. I listened to your song, and you sir, are talented... And "that" should be all that matters.

To me it is, unfortunately many people put weight in other categories... (I'm not talking about you, I'm making a general comment, i.e., JONBOY? And his minions...) They care about the politics? They care about "who is cool? Who is not? Who you should be allowed to comment on? And who you should not..." It's like High School with him and his friends... :-) They will deny it? But I wrote a song? "It is what it is..." And in their case? Well... The proof is in the putting? And they put quite a bit... Quite a bit... :-) Most will ignore the truth? But again? It is what it is? :-) And the truth? Shall set you free...

I try to give credit where credit is due? And in your case? It's due... Most excellent, and I was actually surprised by how good it was? Which to me? means it was ****ing awesome. And that should be all that matters? Unfortunately? To many here? It is not :-( I could post "a long list of people to whom it does not matter..." To me? It does... And it's the only thing that "should" matter? The music.

But 85% of what goes one here? "Petty politics... " Nothing to do with the music, and that's a crying shame, but it's also the truth...

    Chris,
That is an amazing video production! The music was well played, sung and well mixed.
One issue: The intro guitar was begging to be a nylon stringer.
Your bass looks like my very first bass.  (Ibanez jewel blue GR-200)
In watching yo play the electric guitar while listening closely, it seemd as though you were open tuned to a D chord. Is that so?
Any way you slice it, it was a job well done!
