Music in Phoenix, AZ

I'm relocating to the Metro Phoenix area and am wondering about the music scene. Any one here in the CH from the area? Could you point me to what venues have live blues, jazz, rock or metal in the Phoenix area?

I have friends in Phoenix. I visit there from time to time--usually in the winter--and sometimes we go to a show. Last year, we saw Carl Palmer at a place called "The Compound": http://thecompoundgrill.com/ They also just opened a huge museum dedicated to music: http://www.themim.org/ I've been to one or two other places. I try to remember what they were. Have a good move and good luck with the heat.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

Well thank you... Dry heat I can handle.... Humid heat... Well there's a reason I don't live in Florida anymore. I'll check those out once I get situated in Phoenix. This is going to be a hard move. I am leaving the wife in Boise, adding her to the statistics of being a recession widow. In a way this is sad for me. I love Boise, love my wife, love my dogs. Hate being broke. But I am looking forward to the alone time to delve deeper into creating more music. Thanks for the tips!

Hey Doc! Good to see you around here again. Phoenix is my old stomping grounds. Played every place worth playing there back in the day. Still have old bandmates there. Once you get settled in, let me know and I'll give you some names and places to check out.

They also just opened a huge museum dedicated to music: http://www.themim.org/

+100.  What an astonishing place.  The "mim" stands for Musical Instrument Museum.  By the way, it's in Scottsdale, not Phoenix proper.  Clearly, *major* bucks were spent on it ... it really had me wondering where the funding came from.  But I was walking through much of it with my jaw almost haning open.

There is one major omission.  They have no display of computer based instruments.  They do have a Synclavier that probably cost six figures, but not a single soft synth, VST effect or DAW.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to visit MIM, yet. But I'm planning on it next I'm out that way.
