MusicTech 6 Best Headphones

That list is bound to raise some hackles, because headphones are such a personal preference.
 
No single product can ever be "best" for all applications, e.g. tracking, editing, mixing, noisy environments and just listening for pleasure. If you spend a lot of time with headphones on, you may rate comfort above all other qualities. If you listen in dance clubs or on airplanes, or monitor while playing drums, then isolation probably tops the list. If you mix on cans, flatness is paramount. The MusicTech list should have broken them out by application, e.g. monitoring while tracking.
 

From what I hear the newer ATH-M70's are a substantial step up from the ATH-M50's. They'd better be for the price difference ($299 vs. $169).
 
Based on specs alone (I haven't heard them yet) they appear to have flattened the bass. My main complaint about the 50's has always been the overhyped bottom. But I won't be ordering a pair anytime soon; if I need headphone honesty i prefer open-back models.

otherwise i'm using some sony mdr-7506's and some t-bone hd990d's
