Hello all,

after 6 months of work, Muz3um for Rapture is released.

Muz3um is a collection of new presets for Cakewalk Rapture, built on waveforms from vintage synthesizers.
It features also the use of convolution with impulse responses taken from amp sims, cabinets and lo-fi speakers, providing additional colors to the set.

Programming these patches, the goal was to provide playable sounds, with particular attention to all that could make them as alive as possible, featuring extensive use of modulation and human interaction as well (modwheel, aftertouch, velocity...).

I had a lot of fun creating this set. I hope you'll have the same fun using it.

A few numbers:

- 661 presets organized in categories: Basses, Keys, Leads, Pads, Sequences
- 573 waveforms
- 36 impulse responses

Setup instructions: download the file - there are two different installers: one for XP/Vista and one for OSX - from PatchArena and run the setup, the installer will take care of the rest.
A new Muz3um folder will appear in the browser.

thanks to the following people:

- all who provided the sample material (some of them even when this project was a collection for z3ta+): hollowsun.com, analoguesamples.com, john from ruskeys.net, chad from patcharena.com, antonio from autodafe.net, rory from rozzer.net

- Tom Brockway (B Rock): you were the first one here to know about this project, you were the first one to give me encouragement and support. And thanks a lot for your endless list of tutorial and tricks (of course, heavily used here)

- Paul Fogarty (aka Fog): for your incredibile attention to detail, patience and suggestions during the final phase of this project. Thanks man, you were a huge help for me

- Chad Beckwith: for the installers (a real pro work) and your enthusiasm during all these months.

- René Ceballos: we all know why, you were the one who made all this possible

regards
Francesco

after 6 months of work, Muz3um for Rapture is released.
Francesco:

I saw this 'baby' from its infancy, and watched it grow & gain gain strength though its middle development. As you know, there was a point where I ended up working away from home much more than I was there, with limited access to my setup. Regrettably, that situation prevented me from getting more involved. So, while I missed a lot of the final stages, I've got to comment on how refined this package has become between the last look & now.

Of course, now you decide to release it while I'm serving on jury duty.

But, from what I've been able to preview, the final Muz3um for Rapture release has matured into one great product. So many 'professional' designers crank out standard fare, cater to the basics only, and approach synthesis design in one dimension. Your insistence from the beginning to "provide playable sounds, with particular attention to all that could make them as alive as possible" has really paid off.

By the time an end user explores the extensive use of programmed modulations, it's going to seem like there are double the 661 presets here. Better yet, these modulations are folded into the programs in a most organic way. René's going to be thrilled about this, Francesco. I'm sure this is representative of what he had in mind for Rapture, ever since it hit the drawing board.

Fantastic work.

I just downloaded Muz3um. (I missed this thread, having been busy with too many projects to get on the forums regularly. So I didn't learn about this until I got an email from Cakewalk today.)

THIS IS INCREDIBLE!! I have PURCHASED presets & waveform libraries that I don't enjoy playing as much as this set. The patches are superb and very definitive. I like the fact that they are memorable to my ear; and I will absolutely be using these in some projects.

Thanks for all of your hard work. I hope this project gets you some well deserved publicity and PAID work.

Just a comment for those (like me) who have merged their Dim Pro and Rapture multisamples - the installer places its wavs and sfzs in the default folder, so you will have to move 'em yourself afterwards.

Dear Francesco,

Thank so much for your generousity. These sounds are amazingly incredible. I don't think I will ever have to use another emulation synth again. My search for the right sound(s) is over. I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your work. After listening and playing for a while, I almost forgot to come back and thank you, Francesco.

The only thing I can say other than express my appreciation is suggest that perhaps you could have made nice little fortune from selling this pack. It is so good, it is better and more usable than any others I've heard. I can't believe it is free.

Wow, again and thanks!! Totally blown away.

sometimes people like to keep what they use in their studio a secret, which might be part of it, esp sounds in the hope many don't have them. Although if you look at the hit count on this thread + how many downloads there have been at patch arena. It's a good few who have bagged it 800+ if (I'm correct) .

if someone let it slip they used it and had a commerical hit from using it, the hit rate for it would go thru the roof.. although I'm not sure ALL of the downloads have been counted.. so it's probably a lot more

Note for Vista 64-bit Users and/or users who choose custom folder locations for their software installation:

You will need to manually move the content from "C:\Program Files(86)\Cakewalk\Rapture" to the proper location, such as mine being "C:\Program Files\Audio Apps\Cakewalk\Rapture"

i have all my Audio apps in C:\Program Files\Audio Apps\[appname]

Francesco, please make changes to the installer or make a dowload that is NOT an installer. Use system folder IDs like %program folders% instead of hard coded paths, OR BEST: ask the user to specify the location.

Thanks for the free expansion pack. Now i don't have to trick my system into recognizing z3ta+, virus_z3ta+ AND mus3um_zeta+ VSTi (i have success with the first two, but could not install the third - so i am thankful for you releasing a Rapture version, despite the installer faults.

Hey Jace,

I'll look into this, the installer should be looking at the registry for the Multisample folder location. Luckily the power users who have customized their installation know how to quick fix and move their files post-install.
Cheers,
Chad

<EDIT>

I looked into this and the installer should be working. It seems as though you may have moved Rapture's contents without creating a custom Multisamples path within the registry. See the following post from René:

http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.asp?m=825357

ORIGINAL: René
The 'Multisamples Folder' registry entry works in Rapture as well. The installer doesn't create it, basically because Rapture factory multisample set is tiny (about 1MB), but you can create it yourself and in this way relocate Rapture multisamples folder anywhere in your system (I have it relocated *inside* DP multisamples folder myself). It's HKLM\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\Rapture\Multisamples Folder (szstring).
