My 20th Anniversary
This year marks my 20th year using Cakewalk. I still remember getting my first Twelve Tone Systems Cakewalk sequencer on floppy disks in 1993 and was simply astonished at the technology at my disposal that I could now actually synchronize a sequencer playing MIDI drums and synth parts with my guitars and vocals on my DA-88 using MTC. Surely this was the epitome of music technology made available to the masses! It has been amazing watching the progress of music technology since then, especially technology made affordable for so many people. I can't wait to see what happens next...

Been using CW since the DOS days. I think that may have been over 25 years ago? I miss Greg...

garrigus ...I'd still like to know where my Star Trek transporter is though... I would love to get rid of my car and just walk into the transporter to visit family and friends in different parts of the country/world.
Watch for it in Cakewalk's next release!!

Long time user here, too! I actually still have the boxed set from 1992....I paid $400 for it, and around $2000 for my 486 SX computer with a whopping 2MB Ram and 120MB hard drive!! Soon after, I bought an Ensoniq ASR 10 sampling keyboard which I used for many years as a controller.....but it finally gave up the ghost a couple of years ago (but I can't part with it, it's like an old friend LOL!).

garrigus Things have definitely changed a lot. Since then... we now have the Internet, virtual instruments, DAW software apps that mimic entire studios in a box, etc. I'd still like to know where my Star Trek transporter is though... I would love to get rid of my car and just walk into the transporter to visit family and friends in different parts of the country/world. Scott

I started using Sonar with X1. I just wanted to post because your post reminds me of Tim Wilson's song, Jetpack.

My first Cakewalk version was 3.0 on 3.5" floppy discs. Was running on a 386DX machine with 1 meg ram. That was pretty much top of the line back then. The very first sequencer software I ever used was called "The Final Cut" written by a guy up in Canada. It was a blast learning how to program songs. When I first received my copy from "Bananas" out in California, it wouldn't recognize my Music Quest 2Port midi interface. I contacted the guy in Canada and he re-wrote the software and sent me a new version that worked with the Music Quest interface. Finally "upgraded" to Cakewalk 3.0, got a Music Quest 8PortSE rack mount interface. Those were the days

December 1993 was my entry into Cakewalk for me as well. Cakewalk 3.0 on floppy disks was my first buy. I upgraded with every upgrade through Pro Audio series and up through Sonar 3. Then took a few years off and just stayed with Sonar 3 until Sonar 8. Since Sonar 8 I am back upgrading and updating with every version and quickfix. So-- it will it has been 20 years for me but I have to admit that there were the gaps when I missed versions from Sonar 4-7. Right now loving x2a which has been stable on my machine. Happy 20th!
