My Angel Cries - remix

This is about as rocked as I get.

My Angel Cries
Originally recorded in about 2003, and was included on my 2007 CD "Innocent Summer". This version features new Session Drummer 3 drums, and a totally new mix. All guitars and the vocal are me.

I like this song very much.  You definitely rock.  The arrangement is well crafted, and your mix sounds very good on my speakers.  Normally, I suggest to people to turn down the reverb on the lead vocal, but in this case, I think you could use a light touch of reverb or a very short delay.  Maybe just in the chorus to differentiate it from the verse.  But, if not, that's OK because this is a good song, and I intend to listen a few more times.

    All the best,
    Lynn

Thank you, Lynn. There is just a bit of delay on the vocals, using Channel Tools for widening, but it is subtle. You hear it well on the spoken phrase.

Thanks, Eric. That's two votes for more reverb. :)

I don't think the voc problem is lack of reverb. IMO, you just need to high pass the lows and then some and head more towards a telephony voc to fit it in the mix. Just my opinion.

Nice one Steve.  Add one more vote for the reverb.  Nice work on the leads and on the bass.  I am sitting here listening again trying to figure out of whom the vocals remind me and I can't --- but anyway they sure sound good.

That sounds like good advice, I will investigate the idea. Thanks!

And thank you, Freddy J. The only comparison I have heard more than once for my voice (and I vehemently disagree!) is Warren Zevon.

I noticed that the ride cymbals stick out a bit. It sounds pretty dry, perhaps if you bring the dry signal down and mix in a bit more of the wet signal it would blend more with the mix?

JoanMichele, I don't have a wet signal on the drums, but that's a thought. I start with a dry set so I can blend, but I hardly ever do. I will look into that, too. Thanks!

    Hi Steve,

Cool song! The guitars sound great on my laptop. Actually the whole mix/production sounds great. Very nice.

Good rocker.  I would vote for a touch of verb.  It is just a tad bassy overall but the bass track sounds good on my system.

But, very cool tune, powerful guitars.

I agree with that, Daryl. I want to pull back a little bass in the mix, but here's a secret no one has noticed: I am using two bass guitars, playing octaves. Its' tricky to mix them. ;)

    Thanks!
