My First Music Video! "Hearts On Fire"

Hi, everybody,

Here's my very first attempt at a music video (or actually any type of video, including home video) for the song "Hearts On Fire" from my just released CD.

I actually shot it and tried to cobble it together back in early November, but then I ended up not getting the CD finished until last month.

Most of you guys already heard the song about a year ago here on the forum, so I thought you might be interested in checking out the video.

"Hearts On Fire" Music Video - http://youtu.be/2a6NqDqloEo?hd=1

If you get a chance to view it, please let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Bob

Excellent stuff Bob. My only crit is that your standing alone could have used some more body movement to convey the heaviness/energy of the song. Other than that, great job.

For a first time video I've sure seen a LOT worse!  You're the first singer in a video that I can remember that doesn't look like he's just been given a wedgie by someone who also loaded up the underwear with Ben-Gay first.

    Good job!

Nice quality to the video for sure. Being honest, you don't look completely comfortable in it, which is perfectly understandable for a first outing. I'm sure I would be the same, probably a lot worse. If you ever want some inspiration for some simple vids check out this guy on you tube Michael Aaron

He makes a little go along way with his video work. Nice guy too - I've contacted him many times in the past about his music and he was more than happy to share his knowledge / methods. He's not posted much on YT of late and has even taken a couple of my favourites down for some reason, but he has his own website  so you could contact him through that if you see anything that you'd like to know how he did it

I particularly like the shot with your heart on fire, and of course the James Bond style dancin' gal in front of the flames is always a winner in my book...

All the rest will all fall into place once you start taking it all in your stride and just having fun with it.

This however is a cracking job for a first go!

Totally a great first video!  The next time you pull out the camera, just pretend you didn't.  Or, rather, pretend your camera is a huge auditorium filled with screaming (naked) fans.  But, the production is really good! and will only get better... Yay for videos! :)

I did the whole thing in Sony Vegas, which to me, I was very surprised and happy to learn, is actually very similar to working in a DAW.  Now, if I could only learn to get over the uncomfortable "yuck" factor of seeing myself on video or in pictures!

    Hi Bob,

Great job on the video! Nice to see the man behind the music

I personally don't even like to have my picture taken so I can't imagine having to watch a video of myself...you pull it off beautifully, though.

Oh yea, the song is absolutely rockin' as well.

    Hi, Tony,

How are you brother?  Doing great, I hope!

Thanks for checking it out and also for the kind words.  Yes, sir, LOL, my one and (so far) only video of any type ever!  As I mentioned above, before this attempt, I'd never even taken a video with my smartphone or any other type of camcorder.

Last fall, I saw an ad for a super cheap closeout deal on a tiny JVC HD video camera about the size of a pack of cigarettes and picked it up and started to fool around with it.  I got interested after seeing some of the guys and gals on the forum posting some cool videos, and decided to do some research on putting something together.  I downloaded a few video editing software demos to try out, and decided to use Sony Vegas because it seemed to work similarly to using a DAW.  Then I worked on learning about lighting and chroma key effects and back in November, I just went at it like a bull in a china shop  until I came up with something I thought looked close to half decent.  This first video is what I ended up with.

Back in late April I picked up a way, way, way, better camera and some higher quality lighting gear than what I used for this, so earlier today I started working on the new video for "Concrete Sky".  Hopefully, the next video will be a big improvement over this one.

Thanks again, Tony, it's always good to hear from you, and be sure to say hello to Tom for me!
