This is very helpful Dan. I've been meaning to sample my kit so I can trigger my acoustic kit on an e-kit. This gives me a good baseline as to where to start, but I also didn't even think about using that to enhance acoustic recordings. Great stuff!

Thanks, Dan. Just watched them briefly, and found them very informative, as usual. I'll have to go through them again in the morning with a strong cup of tea. Thanks again. Jonathan

Nice! I hope you continue to cover the entire kit! I always pick up new pointers watching other people work. These tutorial vids are gold. I'll have to try using a side mic on a snare, as I really liked the tone in the video. I usually place an omni mic to cover the heart of the kit (right over the kick, near the snare and tom.) Is this the mic position for your side mic, or a mic just pointed at the side of the snare anywhere it is convient?
Bandlab Platinum and every other toy I can get my hands on...and yes I'm way in debt over this obsession...

I think it's interesting all the techniques I've see from all the different videos on this subject. It just goes to show that whatever technique you use, if it sounds good, go with it. Nice videos.

FWIW, Mic'ing the "shell" of the snare (instead of - or in addition to) top/bottom is not all that uncommon. We did that with our latest drum sample library... The captured sound has more high-end "snap" at the expense of a little "weight" when compared to mic'ing the top. IMO, It's a good sound.
