My First Synth is Undergoing an Operation

A few months back I recovered the very first synth I owned, a 1970's vintage Yamaha SY-2 (Shown in my avatar) from the loft at my parents house.

I dusted it off I powered it up and apart from some chronic tuning problems it was working, but not for long, some ancient component risen from a 25+ years sleep keeled over and died at the stress of having to work again.

I was duely shipped off to a vintage synth restorer who has now reported back and given me a quote to fix it. I just gave him the go ahead and the old girl will undergo surgery in the next week or so.

I am looking forward to getting to grips with its high and low pass filters with separate cutoff and resonance controls and it's pressure sensitive keyboard once again. It has presets similar to a ARP Pro Soloist, but you can edit the filters and envelopes making it prety versatile.

If I wanted a synth It may have been smarter to spend the repair money on the new Imposcar II VSTi or upgrading Z3ta, but this is going to be more fun.

Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

I agree with the fun part. There's something rewarding about being able to tweek hardware on the fly. It's just not the same as searching through menus to find what you want to adjust.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?
