My Key Bindings Editor Teaser
This is still unfunctional test but it shows what the DAW 2.0 Key Bindings Editor could be. (preview removed, see another in later post) I know there are others, too, who would love to search key bindings by the function name and not only by the key. If I fail to make this work, I hope people send CW feature requests for a more flexible bindings editor.

Now that's a cool app. There must be something in the water over there.

Keni You have free time? I ency you! ;-) Keni If 'free time' is the time when you can do whatever you like then I've got plenty of it just now. I use it all to develop Deep... should finish some albums but this is more important project now :-).

I understand... I was only joking... ;-) I know what it's like when you dive into a project... Long ago before the mac or windows was invented (DOS days) I wrote my first app... A Sound Librarian for the Oberheim Xpander who's memory was so large it was hard to get it handled with the limited memory (and my programming abilities)... I lived and breathd it everyday for months... Then Music Quest came out with their' librarian and saved me further grief! ;-) Thanks again for all your hard work... Keni

This feature will be HUGE improvement to SONAR if I can make it work! I am VERY thrilled about it and I may have got an idea how to make this real. If problems get solved I'll make the best Key Bindings editor in Milky Way, exclusively for SONAR. Some features: * Window can be stretched - not gonna happen in SONAR for a long time * Easy to find functions by their name - just type something in the search box and the tree view will refresh automatically and show only the matched functions. This makes life so much easier!!! * I'll sort functions to tree nodes. Current list is preliminary and it has duplicate node name entries. * Flexibility, flexibility... Soon key binding is so fun that you do it rather than play Angry Birds. So what are the problems? Well, there's only one: I don't know function binding codes. There is another: I don't know the exact format how SONAR stores the key code. More trials and errors needed...

Nice... It sure will help a lot... I usually find I need to locate a what key is tied to a function than the other way around... You might even want to make a basic version of that function alone that could run from say, Sonar Plus? So anytime we can't remember which key is the function we're after, the util could look it up for us! Much better than searching thru help! Keni

You could launch Deep with command line START Bindings to go directly there. I've solved almost all technical difficulties. I'm optimistic now! :-)

Do you mean being able to type in text for it to search for? I've got a feeling it would be easier or more useful to have a drop down list of available functions so that the wording doesn't need to be remembered.... but having the option ot type in text would be a good time saver in many cases... Is this what you were referring to? I'm feeling better now that you're optimistic! ;-)

All functions are listed in the tree. You don't need to remember anything! If you enter something in the search field, program hides all but those functions that contain typed letters in their names. Check the last screen capture - I have typed "set" and all the functions in the tree contain word "set". I may also include some additional features like 'mark as favorite'.

I saw the pic of the search system and it looks awesome. While I don't have need of this everyday, it sure is frustrating getting thrown into help searches to find the function-key...

I don't, but the old HDD with 8.5 is still intact though not my current C drive anymore. Is there a way to search the file on it?

Go to the SONAR's key bindings options and use Export button. Alternative way is to use regedit. Bindings are stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\<sonar version>\Bindings. Export whole Bindings subtree. You find my email at sonarmods.com if it's now visible here in member information.

I'm sure I'll get used to that fast! ;-) Thanks again for all your hard work... This will be one very handy tool! Keni
