My Mix fell apart

So I have this tune almost done. It was sounding good, I’m groovin’. I’ve been saving my changes. I decided to put a Reverb Send Automation, a Reverb Pan Automation and add Waves Renn EQ to a track. When I played the project from the top:
Several guitar tracks were acting weird (low volume, clips fading in and out on their own).
Drum overhead tracks cut in and out like they were under the influence of a gate, but there isn’t one on those tracks.
I haven’t had these problems in the past. This is the first time I’ve automated reverb sends & pans in X1.
I ran out of time so I stopped and closed Sonar. My first hope at saving this mix is to remove the Reverb Send automation I added. Then I’ll delete the EQ. Has anyone experienced similar problems and is there a solution short of building a whole new mix? I’ll have time to try some solutions tomorrow. Any input would be appreciated.

    Rocky,

You may have to up your latency buffers.

Sometimes just adding the "right" FX to a project will do that. Not that the specific FX is "bad" just that in the unique scheme of your FX's it's the one to throw it over the top.

Make sure you have the 'dry' signal muted on the reverb plug-in that you are using on the reverb send bus so you don't have a mix of dry and reverb coming through the send on your track.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot before I remove the automation and EQ. I've noticed the time ruler staggering along before this issue.

yeah probably latency - When mixing, higher latency is often needed when you add a lot of plugins, especially ones that tax the computer a lot.

Higher latency and maybe delete your picture cache. Sometimes that problem creeps up when you least expect it.

I deleted the picture cache? I tried increasing the latency in the Asio panel. I tried my Real Tec sound card (MME 32 bit driver) still had the same issue with high latency. I deleted the reverb send and reverb reverb pan automation that through things into a tizzy. There are some lines on Wav forms that look like automation envelopes they're not automation envelopes. This line shows up on several tracks.  I downloaded and installed build 255 and now there are additional issues. The lead vocal has a delay effect on it. That track doesn't have a delay plug or a send to a delay on it. I've been using Sonar since version 1 and have never seen anything like this. FWIW: I installed SP1 for windows a few days ago.

You might resolve all of these issues by ditching the Realtech and investing in a decent soundcard/interface.

You don't have to spend a huge amount of money to achieve high quality results.

Also, you don't really mean 4MEG of RAM do you?

Thanks Bristol. I did ditch the Realtek but since it's the original sound card in my laptop, I tried it again to see if I had the same issue. I'm using a BehringerUCA 222 USB interface.
At this point I'm gonna save the project, rebuild the mix from scratch ( I'll try it with a template ), contact tech support and hope the original mix will open in the August version of X1 without issue. Thanks for the replies guys!!!

Thanks Jonesey. I saved the project as a template and started the re-build of that mix. The template saved a lot of work but I still had to import the wav files and re-work tracks that I had already processed effects on. All in all not as bad as I thought it would be. I would still like to know what went wrong. Maybe Sonar X1C will resolve it. I'm keeping the wacky mix to see how it works with X1C.

It's real easy to have a bunch of clips selected and use a fade in or out thinking you are only effecting that one clip, and meanwhile you have faded in or out nearly every clip in your mix.... Just a thought.

I've had to go through this process before - in 8.5.3

It's odd how projects can become corrupt in such a fashion, and yet when you rebuild them, they show none of the problems seen in the earlier version.

I'm afraid to do any reverb automation on the rebuild.  So far, so good.

Time for two versions of the project?

One with and one without until you determine the problem.
