My New Best Friend... Thanks IK!

Last summer during the 15 years group buy, I've upgraded from Amplitube Free to the full version. I had bought a couple of amps and cabs models via the Custom Shop, all of which were included in the full version.

I figured - buyer beware, so much for the money I spent on individual models. The full AT was such a deal anyway. I hadn't bothered to check into the CS since. So when I finally did last night, I found that, lo and behold, I had 135 credits waiting for me there. I first thought it was a mistake or something - even inquired to IK OBI - until the idea struck me that these are most likely the individual models I had bought which were credited back to me. That's the only explanation I can imagine.

If such is the case, Kudos to IK for automatically crediting me back. If not, well, I'm just darn lucky. :P

Anyway, I was busy trying to record guitars today and just couldn't hit the right angle, so I checked in the CS to see if something there might inspire me and I saw that they've finally modeled a Hiwatt, head and cab.

I've wanted one of these ever since I heard Tommy Bolin playing one so I jumped on the opportunity and also grabbed a Fender tape echo - because you definitely need one of these if you're to play Bolin.

This Hiwatt stands as one of the best models I've heard - even better, w/ a touch of the TS model in front, it provided exactly the type of tone I was after. I'm not always all that happy w/ Marshall models, whether it's IK or NI or others, Fenders seems easier to model, Vox somewhere in between. I'm usually not into really heavy tones, so I can't really speak of Boogies and modern amps.

But for my that kind of sound I wanted, IK's Hiwatt is pretty incredible, certainly one of my favorites in all the models I've heard. My little LP junior sings...

Might be worth checkin' it out if you use AT and have a few spare bucks to throw into the Custom Shop.

The Hiwatt had long been at the top of my wish list so I was glad to see they'd finally done it. Next on my list was - a couple of Matchless. :P

But I think the Hiwatt will work for quite a few things I had in mind. Gives me that type of sound I'm after most of the time - tight and punchy w/ plenty of definition but not too bright. Suits my style of playing.
