My New Hearing Aids
I was fitted with my hearing aids today. It was like someone turning on the light in a dark room. I went from dull mono to clean FM stereo. WOW! I could hear the door knobs tuning to open doors. I could hear my own footsteps! When I got home I heard this incessant knocking. Where was it coming from? I looked at the wall. It was the clock hanging in the living room! Now I can hear the dogs barking, sirens , neighbors, squirrels on the roof, cars and motorcycles on the road. I had gotten used to the muffled sound. I went outside and sat in my front yard. It is a pleasant day

I'm really glad for you! Most people think that going blind would be worse than deafness, but according to several studies deafness isolates a person socially more than blindness, thus causing more depression and other mental problems, even though blindness makes daily routines more complicated.

TV hasn't been above 18 on the volume. Usually at 28. My guitars sound incredible especially the Rosas! I can hear the wind in the trees P.S. with the new glasses I can see AND hear where I Am going!

I thought I was going to love wearing my HAs. However, they are a pain with the cell phone and headphones. And hearing the ants pi$$ on a cotton ball is annoying too.

It's nice being able to hear "everything" but now I can hear my neighbors And the ants pi$$ing on my cotton balls too!? I think I'll wear them when I have to talk to somebody. I liked the solitude more than I thought P.S. I find myself asking "What in the &&^% are they doing over there?" every 15 minutes

Did you notice the tinkling bell sound of the water in the shower? I had a really bad wax buildup and a nurse cleaned it out. One ear had something about the size of a cigarette butt in it, I had no idea. It was the first thing I noticed, the tinkle little bell sound of the water in the shower. Then maybe you are not supposed to wear them in the shower, I don't know. I need to go to an audiologist. I have tried some online hearing tests and I don't seem to hear anything above 8khz, I think that's right... high end. Then too I have really bad tinnitus and I wonder if it masks the upper frequencies. I wonder if the cures that they, audiologists, tout for tinnitus actually fixes it or does it mask it. I cannot hear crickets unless I am out among them. My wife will say, wow listen to the crickets sometimes when we g to bed. I'm like what crickets? I've gotten used to it and though my ears ring rather loudly all the time, if I don't think about it I forget about it. They are ringing almost as loudly as the TV right now but the ringing is so high pitched that I am able to hear normal midrange and lows just fine. I need to go to the doctor, don't I? I sure am glad you are better. Do the hearing aids bother your ears? Do they hurt your ear at all? Do you have to get used to them or is it like they aren't there, you just hear better? Are they the ones that go down in your ear or the more visible ones or did you get implants? I'm curious because I think this is probably in my near future. FWIW, if I had the unfortunate choice, I would take being blind over being deaf without a second thought. Congrats! Julien

Coincidentally... I found a hearing aid on the path outside the house this morning. Noticing that my elderly neighbour was walking up his garden path, I called out to him, "Excuse me sir, but is this your hearing aid?" Pfft..... the ignorant bugger just ignored me.

Julien - I have a very bad case of tinnitus. As for the hearing aids they are very small and fit into each ear. I can hear very clean with them. I also forget I have them on even this soon after getting them. They are run by battery. It's all free from the V.A. Jeff - I can't turn them down and I'll have to schedule an appointment to get them readjusted. But they are free!I live within 5 miles of the V.A. clinic Gregy - there is no aid on earth that will aid MY singing but I think lots of booze would help cept I don't drink very much. I suppose if I had to hear me sing there would be much drinking I have noticed that with the hearing aids on my singing is much worse

Bill,
How do you shower with the in ear style of hearing aids, do you have to wear something over the ears to protect them? I am assuming that you have to leave them in, all the time?

I can't over stress what it was like when they turned on. I had forgotten what stereo clarity was. Wow is all I could say. Then I remembered that I had mixed all my tunes without my ears aworkin! I Am afraid to listen to them with the hearing aids
