Bottom line is ... ehhh .. I don't care.

They didn't like Christ spreading the Word when He was alive either.

It's ok if you and Cakewalk don't like it.

I'll still buy their Cake's product. It's a good product I use it regularly.

Thanks ol pal for OKing our either not appreciating your proselitizing or even whether or not we happen to believe there even was such a feller as Jesus...we don't, of course, buts that's neither here nor there (see what I did there?). It's your being so magnanimous that's so danged impressive. Forgiving us for being so derned skeptical and reasoned. Forgiving us for taking the only position a thinking being could possibly take given the evidence at hand. You...are one magnanimous ol cuss! And not only that...but hipping us to the fact that Christianity isn't even a religion!!! Now that there's a philosophical bombshell of the first order! I don't want to scare you or nothin...but YOU may be the clue to the new direction. Stay thirsty, my friend.

Oh I had a relationship with him Mooch, ol pal...for many years in my young'un days.  We was runnin buddies and thick as thieves.  He was a great ol pal.  I still remember a few of the logical, kind and meaningful things he said and take em to heart.  Course now he was a huge exaggerator...and a real blowhard at times.  Told me once...I ain't kiddin...that his momma was a dang virgin.  I said yea, JC, ol pal, that's what she told yor daddy but don't you go believing that nonsense.  But did he listen?  Naw.

Turns out though that he wasn't even there really...see, he was my imaginary friend.  And, really not even a friend.  At least not in they way most folks think about what that means.  He was more like a crutch...a place holder sorta for my personal responsibility and my ability to reason.  I was letting him do all the thinkin and takin care of gettin me outta scrapes an all.  Shoot, I guess we all have some sort of imaginary buddy sometimes and, heck, ain't nothing that bad about it.  As long as we remember they ARE imaginary.

But he was fun to have around and a dang decent feller.  Even if he was pretend.  I still recall him fondly.  He just kinda drifted off one day.  Seems the more I came to understand him...the more I came to understand me...and everything else for that matter.  Who knows, it could happen to you too.

But, then again, YMMV.

I am not really sure what all this means. But I've always liked you Olpal. Still do. If whatever you're trying to say is becuase I am a Christian......or..... If you don't like that I am a Christian. I still love you as a person, and co buddy in the forums. Never had a problems with you before. Heck.... I've been a Christian since 2008. Never had a problem like this until I explained why I chose the title I chose for my vlog.

I'd hope I'd still be friends and chat buddies with everyone here. I don't intend to thrust my Christian ways on anyone but I am not going to lie about them if someone asks a question. And I'll defend them if I am attacked.

I am not the only Christian in the coffee house I know that. I can think of at least three others.

Thanks Ol Pal .... Hope we can still be coffee house buds. Never disliked you and still don't.

Paul

Mooch, I admire your conviction and willingness to share it.  There are many great people that contribute to this forum.  Not many are Christian but they are tolerant and I believe would help those who need it in a heart beat.  I am a Christian and recognize that there are many in public forums that don't want to hear about it.  On the other hand, if your faith and conviction is true then it is hard to contain.  Hopefully your friends will understand how important faith is to a believer such as yourself.

I also know that we need to respect the house where we share our faith and there are many forums and groups where that is welcomed.

Best regards,

Jimmy

Maybe it's my perspective that's skewed here, but aren't christians like a majority? I was raised as a christian (heck, I was even baptized "Christian", ironically enough) - a Catholic to be precise.

Catholicism was like the de facto/default religion back home in Quebec. In recent years, I've started seeing people who did not have their children baptized and pushed in the arms of the church. But it's still far from common, and a subject to much debate between people.

Anyway, whether it's protestants, or baptists or catholics, or Jehovah's Witnesses, it seems that until very recently, the teachings of christianity were prevalent and still are in one form or another pretty much every where I go in America.

It's not like you guys are a minority or something. Even on these forums, I get the impression that there is a pretty important number of believers - I'd always figured that you guys outnumbered us atheists by a long shot.

I could probably go on all day naming you christian rockers - even some of the most outrageous ones like Alice Cooper. If I'm not mistaken, he's a born again christian. Much like the rest of the population, musicians adhere to the teachings of christianity more or less loosely, in one way or another.

There's even Christian music. Whoever has heard of Atheist music? (I'm not talking about shock rock musicians and alleged satanic music, because that's still feeding on the same "mythology").

Re: My New Video Blog ...AKA....Vlog 2013/11/04 23:17:08 (permalink)
Rain,

I was born and raised catholic and went to a catholic school and all that too. I used to think the same thing. Somewhere along the line from age 7 until my senior year in high school ... I just lost my belief. Felt similar to you in terms of there is a lot of Christians. I would say 1988 is when I just put "religion" to the side and just lived life.

Again felt like there are Christians everywhere and ehhhh it's junk.

Around 2003 I slowly got my faith back and by 2008 I was totally back into. This time with a non domininational church.

I've been coming to these forums since 2005 and hardly anyone knew I was a. Christian until a couple of days ago. The reason being .... Things like the forum policy ... It's every where in the United States. Politically correctness. In church I feel like ok ... I can talk openly ... Almost every where else from work to the forums anywhere ... To walking down the street .... Someone somewhere will be offended at my belief or the bible and the commandments or Jesus teachings .... Almost everywhere we can't openly say anything with out someone protesting my belief .

Yes I've taught in schools where Muslims are allowed time to go and pray but I can't teach a song for the holidays with Christ in it.

Maybe we are in the majority ... I don't know..... I don't have the stats....But we seem to not be able to even mention it with out .... Someone getting ticked off

So if you noticed I've stayed away from it in this forum for years. I made a blog which isn't really about Christianity but has an odd title for a Christian ... Cursing Christian .... Someone suggested a different name ... I told him why I chose that name .... And people were offended ..... I wasn't thinking ... I am going to come in here and convert people .... I just wanted to show some people a blog.... Not really thinking ....that I should have just showed the youtube channel and not the web site with the name .... I just wasn't thinking

On the other hand ...why can't I just explain why I chose the title of a blog web site without people being offended ?

I get not wanting to deal with Jesus been there myself .... But seriously .... It feels like.... No .... These days we are the minority .... And lest when we are the minority when it feels like other than church and my house .... Someone with in ear distance will be offended

Christianity is what is what it is. And I am a Christian. I have to be honest I don't get to tell people that too much with out worry of offending someone now a days.

Iif your a believer or not .... That isn't right in this country. I feel like the minority even if I am not the minority.

It's ok to feel like you're in the minority, ol pal, whether you are or aren't. And you aren't. Yet. It just gives you perspective. And that's a good thing. Honest.

I do understand the issue you are having with the so-called political correctness. In fact, there is a HUGE debate about that back home. As far as I'm concerned, the idea really isn't to repress christians to make room for other beliefs.

Other than that, well, I think it's only normal that you talk religion with people who share your beliefs in the church. In other common spaces, it's obvious that others may not want to hear about it. It should be a neutral zone shouldn't it?

All in all, maybe everyone feels a bit repressed - it is just hard to imagine for me that a christian would feel that repressed in a country where religion and beliefs occupy so much space. And personally, as a member of these boards, I'd react as vehemently to anyone coming here to talk about the jewish faith or the muslim faith or whichever. But the fact that it's christian just doesn't make it more right - and I get the feeling that maybe that's what annoy many christians.

All I can tell you is that things aren't better if you're an atheist.

This is a country where there are road signs literally telling me to repent before the kingdom come.

Where there are preachers saying the same things out on the streets.
Where we argue to no end over the president's alleged religion.
Where there are Bibles in the drawers in most hotel rooms.
Where most of the homeless people I see have signs with the words "God Bless You" somewhere on them.
Where I've seen cars being vandalized and people threatened because they had an atheist sign in a window.
Where funerals of a metal musician are protested by members of a church.
Where people being declined certain things because they refuse to swear "under God".
And on and on and on.

Trust me, having no religion in this country can be much worst than having one - for many, you're the ultimate immoral soulless vilain. There are places where you just don't go - or where you're very careful.

On the other hand, I've never seen anyone preaching atheism in Times Square. I've never seen a book on atheism in a drawer in any hotel I stayed. Nor the Quran or the Torah for that matter.

I don't see how being asked to keep it to oneself is such a big deal or an act of repression - so long as it doesn't favour another religious group.

I can see that whole point of view You just wrote about Rain. And no I don't plan on coming into the forums talking about politics and religion and trying to convert people. I've been here sing 2005 as i said and haven't done that and wasn't planning on being a rebel and starting now. I understand people not wanting to hear about Christianity as much as I want to hear about anything else.

A the same time I don't mind saying I am a Christian this is what I believe and why I did this..... If someone asks or makes a suggestion or inquires ....probably as much as you don't mind saying hey I am an atheist and I don't believe for ......whatever your reasons are

I do think this political correctness stuff is for the birds though, I think it stifles freedom and it stifles truth. I think it's done purposely.

If you take "religion" out of the conversation and talk about morals there is truth to what you said above. I have truth and morals too.

I don't think governments in general want to hear truth. Hence..... The political correctness they pushed over the last two decades.

That's all. I really have to say on it. I am not pointing and finger wagging at anyone.

I am unsubscribing to this thread now. I don't know that there is anything else that I can add. I am a. Christian. Hopefully we can all still Be coffee house buds. I am the same guy that's been hanging around here for years. And I have a video blog whee I look fat ... In real life I am skinny and only have one chin .... Just ask Bapu ;)

Thanks for the point of view and chat

Paul

Hey Mooch I thought your blog title was kinda cute and revealing. Christians aren't perfect.

IMO the very term "Christian" itself is widely abused and misunderstood. To some folks being born into a Christian family or being baptized makes you a Christian. To some folks the Christians were those folks who killed thousands of people in the name of their God and the connotations of that and how they view it are bad to them. To some people a Christian is some kind of a fundamentalist weirdo, who lives life in the extreme and expects everyone else to do the same.To some people acknowledgement in the basis for the word is not something they themselves are really ready to approach and they don't appreciate anyone making it into any kind of a confrontation. The real Christians need to play catch up just to have any kind of a meaningful dialog, that is, if anyone wants to have a dialog.

I can understand why some would dislike the word and what it represents to them. I can also see why the name means good things to other people.

We talk politics here sometimes. It's difficult not to get onto those subjects . I mean, they pertain to so much of our lives one way or the other.  I have pretty much heard it all from the other side. I'll bet I could almost convince you of the other sides views Mooch. They are pretty persuasive if that's all you feed yourself.

God loves everyone and that includes the fine folks we have here who call themselves Atheists. I think highly of those folks too. I have never walked a mile in anyone's shoes but my own.

It's very simple.

Either you're with God or against God.
Either you're with Christ or against Christ.

By their fruits, you shall know them.
