My Nightmare ..Getting Better
I go out a buy an ssd Hd about 6 weeks ago, A few days ago I installed W7 64bit onto that hd. after about 1 day I notice my start up was taking forever.. I figured , either my bios needed to be flashed or something in the bios it self needed to set. Instead of doing it myself , I brought it to someone who's been the business for years, I really didn't want to mess with flashing my bios, Well I just went to pick up my computer only to find out he said the the ssd went bad, Ok np I'll return it , well Microcenter only has a 30 day return policy , Ok worst case scenario I'm out 1 ssd.. Well here's the fun part .. The asswipe decided to install W7 64bit Ultimate over my good running Xp 32bit which had 100's of plugins/software. And no image was made at all.. I do have the .cwp files as I do back ups but I don't see an easy solution as all the .exe are all gone. The installation of w7 64 bit was only done because I was told repeatedly Xp is ending it's life cycle along with my audio device, which I ended up ordering the Roland Oct this morning . Just So that I can have the best possible experience. I am so sick to my stomach right now.. I should of never bought X1... since December I been fighting with this software to get it to work .. And drinking won't work on this one.. I think I need some of that new Mexican Tar floating around Via an IV drip. OH what a nightmare its going to be to install all those programs .ahhh NI Komplete will take all day.. Sorry for my post.. As I know alot are complaining about whiners dont mean to be one.. But I needed to vent a bit...

D00d! That is a terrible story. I'm assuming you've already absorbed the appropriate lessons (backups backups backups)(don't let anyone frak with your DAW) Assuming you, er, own all that software reinstalling everything shouldn't be the total meltdown, but I bet it'll take a while. Tracking down all the freebz VSTs can take a while, but look at it this way, you'll have a fresh clean install. Invest thee in a good imaging program and make some image captures at various states and tell the computer guy he owes you literally thousands of dollars in the lost software. At the very least maybe he'll chuck some free gear your way or something.

Get a hold of Ontrack Easy Recovery, it saved me once and I'd recommend it to anyone, even off a drive that's been repartitioned, reformated and a new OS installed. If you can get even half you're data back it's worth it.

As a computer service professional who does stuff like this daily, it is a shame people in this line of work operate in such an irresponsible way. I am terribly sorry that this happened. You should have been given the chance to make a decision (phone call) to not have that done to your setup.

Thanks Guys .. Im all clam now Zo My problem ended up being a bad SSD drive allegedly , It worked awesome for about a day, then I on a restart everything slowed down it took about 2 mins for the bios to load up. My Initial thoughts were Cmos Battery, which i drained and replaced , I started up the SSD and it worked mint, restarted and again it became slow. So I figured maybe the bios needs to be flashed or maybe the memory is going ,So I did a test on the memory and that was fine, but now Im thinking its the either the bios needs to flashed or some advance setting in the bios need to be tinkered that I'm not aware of or maybe its PSU or bad Hard drive. So now the rest is history .. his consensus is bad SSD .will see I get my computer back tomorrow.

...wicked That's what a good "Serialz" label in Gmail is for! Absolutely. I keep copies on two separate drives, as well as a hard copy in a small notebook. Of course, my main safety net is a regular backup image of my C: drive. Sadly, there are folks out there who've spent big $$ on their setups -- even to the point of sound- treating their rooms--- but who balk at the thought of spending $40 on imaging software like Acronis True Image. (Which, though I recommend it, isn't absolutely necessary since both Vista and Win7 have basic backup apps built-in). To those folks, I say, respectfully: Get a clue, and backup your stuff!

I find it very useful to keep all my serial/activation codes in a Notepad file on the desktop of each of my 3 computers at home and of the one at the office - and on a USB stick. This has saved me a lot of time and hassle over the years.
