My Pal Mooch - A SchteelyDang Production

Straumpu & The CHC (aka The Coffee House Choir) proudly present My Pal Mooch (song idea and lyric inspired by Old55).

We also want to thank jamesg1213 for his most excellent lead guitar work. And Straummy gets special mention for the solo at 3:22.
The CHC (this time) are: Julibee, Old55, Beagle, timidi, Daryl1968, Beepster and 57Gregy.

This song was the participants "wedding gift" to Mooch, who will be getting married on August 25th, 2012.

My Pal Mooch <---- Soundcloud link
(Inspired by Old55)
I remember the thirty-five sweet hot dogs
When Mooch took me to the hot dog stand
Up in Chicago
It was still September
When his daddy was quite surprised
To find his Hofner was still at Frank's
Out in California
We kept watching the Stones DVD
When Mooch told me, look at Christina
I said oh no
Watching it again won't do

CHORUS:
Well I did not think that Mooch
Could be so cruel
But I'll keep singing songs
For my pal Mooch

Mooch has seen Lew, standing outside his door
Very soon he's gonna complain
All about Dora
You know Lew can't stand her
Doing what she did before
Playing Mississippi Queen
Waggin' her hairy tail
Well I hear the whistle but I can't go
With the Beagle down to Mexico
Mooch said oh no
It's a Dora weekend for you

CHORUS

So if Mooch wants me
To stand up at his wedding
That'll be the day I go
Back to Chicago
You know Dora has missed me
Sleeping up on Mooch's couch
And the Coffee House wants us to
Turn on that old Mooch cam
Well I hear the whistle but I can't go
With the Beagle down to Mexico
Mooch said oh no
The chosen one says it won't do.

CHORUS

Bravo.  You ought to send this to Fagen and Becker for inclusion on their greatest hits album.  Or Weird Al.

@Jules - that was the WIP backing track. ThatOrEd/Bapu did his bass since then and added percussion to the outtro and changed the drumkit and the boyz did their geetars to be sure.
@Jan and Jules - You are not tag alongs, you're in the band (NagBap is now installed and fully operational Bapu has informed us)

For those listeners that care about the particulars:

jamesg1213 is on the left and the solos, Straummy is on the right and the solo at 3:22
Bapu used his Alembic. Did he tell you he has an Alembic?
Drums are EZDrummer Metalheads (on a Schteely Dang song???!!!????)
Piano is Ivory II - Close C7 Club
Horns are from the base Kontakt library
Percussion in the outtro is EZDRummer Latin Percussion
Cowbell is from EZDrummer Pop

Bapu is on lead vocals. Beagle is on the two part harmony lines. Jan and Jules are on the Chicago lines and the word Chicago includes Daryl1968 and timidi. The entire CHC is on the chorus.

Bapu, Your harmonies sound really good.  I mix harmonies way louder and wider than most people and that is controversial.  Yours are mixed well.  Thanks for sharing.

Ahh "The Stealy Dan.." I'm sure everyone knows the derivation of the band's name, so I won't beat a dead horse with my big hard "Stealy Dan..."

I would (keep in mind on the buds) bring your high horns out a bit and give them a bit more air. Good production, and the vocals are "improving..." great guitar work and tone. Oh and?

The bass sounds pretty good too, is that a Fender?

This was simply awful. The vocals were about the worst I have heard. I was hoping that the solo at 3:22 might save the song but it was pretty thin sounding and lame. Sorry to say.

@Lynn - Thanks for listening. I'm sure they (F&B) would simply laugh at this feeble attempt

@Daryl - yeah that cat is the bees knees

@Wookiee - Thank you oh furry one for the drop in and listen

@Mr. Bill - I'm anxious to hear your next offering (after the flu is gone)

@Beagle - Nooooooo, thank you for participating, my friend.

@57Gregy - Thanks for playing along on this one too

@konradh - Thanks for stopping by and the kudos on the harmonies mix

@Robby - My Fender was too tired to play this time. I used my (ahem) Alembic on this tune. Have you ever heard of Alembic basses Robby???? They are the bees knees. You should get one!!

@Mooch - How did you get pistolepete's password?

@Robby - For some, a parody is over there head. BTW, I'm not a half good bass player either

I liked the intro, it really hooked me.  I was not expecting what came next, so thats cool.

It sounds like music from those buddy TV shows from the 80's, so on this level I think you have been successful.  I have been watching re-runs of Simon and Simon over the last few weeks.

Ok the mix is good but the snare is a little weak and sax sound, sounds a little weird.

But over all, it's actually an enjoyable listen.

Peace Ben

Hi, Guys,

Very nice work on this fun and very clever Steely Dan parody!

Everyone involved did a bang up job.  Nice work recreating the musical backing tracks, and I really liked the tasty assortment of guitar solos.  It sounds like you all had a blast putting this one together!

Ed, that wouldn't possibly be one of 'dem dair' Alembic basses, would it?

Good stuff!

OK, so far......

it's simply awful, needs a proper singer and fatter guitar players, the snare is weak, the sax is weird, it needs more cowbell, the horns need more air and my Fender don't sound like my Alembic (or is it t'other way 'round?) and that guy doing the 5ths BGV is the best thing we've got going for us.

Oh yeah, and we all need to get day jobs.

Have I got it right?

WOW thanks to Bapu for all the time and people he put into this project. What a great wedding gift. From his heart.

I have been busy this past week merging two homes in to one moving and getting ready for wedding and what not..... when Bapu keeps pestering messaging me about a song we were working on. When I finally listen I find it wasnt our song at all.

Only Bapu could come of with an idea to tourcher and make my ears bleed with his bad vocals colaborate on a cover song as a precious wedding gift!

Seriosuly everyone -- really fun thing you all did ....

and Thank You Bapu for your gift!

Now I must drive the "step daighter" to her 3:30 appointment -

then un pack more ....

oh joy!
