My Review of Chromaphone 2

Hey Everyone,

I just published a new review in my This Thing Rules blog series. This time I'm checking out Chromaphone 2, which seriously, rules. You can check out the review along with a demo I made entirely with Chromaphone 2 (in Sonar of course) at

Any questions are welcome and would love to hear what you think of the demo.

Hi David,

I've been a fan of Chromaphone for a while now. Hearing your demo makes me realise that I'm not using it nearly often enough.

Thanks for checking it out :-) Yea there's really just so much that can be done with it, and it's so unique compared to the all the other really synthy or really sample-based stuff we've all got. It falls somewhere outside that range as it's own thing. Really cool.

GAS=gear acquisition syndrome. Also known as Fleeritus. A demeaning disorder that causes you to buy
1. stuff you want
2. stuff you don't need
3. (its worst form) stuff you already have.
If you try to go stop too fast, you may fall on the ground and jerk around. Aka, the Bapu's.

It's Bass, not Bass.

Haha I completely understand now and the struggle is real... I have a list of "Stuff To Buy" that is really shameful considering how much stuff I already have and don't dig deep enough into haha. And I've bought things I already have a couple times (luckily I was able to get a refund haha)

I've regularly toyed with the idea of Chromaphone but have always stopped short of buying it because I already have Prism, which I guess is a similar kind of sound. I wonder how the two compare.

Enjoyed the demo!  It proves that real people can make awesome tracks with AAS tools. The demos on their site blow me away, but that guy has mad skills!!!

Haha yea, that's one of the main reasons I started this blog. To push myself to try new stuff, but also to show a real person doing a demo. Who knows who the people they've got doing demos on these websites are, especially the bigger name companies. It's like oh yea, Hans Zimmer and his army of writers made a great demo, cool :-)

I really dig these guys from Montréal. Got a feeling they're into it for the art of music. Still, telling myself I'm not going to get that last AAS feather my cap is lacking: Tassman. Just because I need to show restraint. Bassdad tells me. Edith warns me. And I'm no Bapu. Nobody is, but the Bapster himself.

Hey David, as much as I like your reviews, I'd like to see more where you find you don't like the product. Might help reduce GAS around here. So, try to find new plugin that turn out to be crap, or not worth the money, and explain why. We'll all thank you for it.

Dan
