My Second Attempted Music Video! "Concrete Sky"

My Second Attempted Music Video!  "Concrete Sky"

Hi, Guys,

Here's my second attempt at creating a music video.  This time it's for the song "Concrete Sky" from my debut CD "Face The Fire" that was released last May.

Most of you regular Song Forum folks already heard the song here about a year ago, so I thought you might be interested in checking out the new video.

"Concrete Sky" Music Video - http://youtu.be/ebNVWU3JwDw

If you happen to get a chance to view it, please let me know what you think!

Thanks in advance,
Bob

    Great song, Bob-O!
I like the video too and I have a couple of observations I'd like to share with you if you don't mind... The first time it showed the two guitars, they seemed to be out of sync with one another....you should be more animated, such as bang your head and toss your head around while you're not singing, and I noticed a little sneak peek at the camera near the beginning also that kind of threw off the mood for me. You were probably nervous, so if you could relax and have a great time, your video would come to life. Just my opinion, that's all. I love all of your stuff. This one reminded me of Allison Chains' Man In The Box, which is another great tune that my band plays. Keep on a rockin' Bob-O!

Wow! This sounds really good. I would agree with Scotty on the sync thing, and to me it was even more against the grain with the Acoustic guitar. That said.. non players likely would not have a clue...

    Great work. :)

Nice work Bob! You're getting the hang of this video thing now, good editing and the sound is great fro U-Tube too! Agree with Scotty's comments, if you just relax a little bit more in front of the camera you'd have it nailed my friend! Was that you drumming too? I'd like to have seen more of those shots.

    Hey Bob,

Sound quality is great even on my lappy. You look more comfortable in the video this time, but what I do find looks a little odd is all the shots of you playing your various guitars without the rest of "the band" if you know what I mean. I know there isn't a band really, so it wouldn't be possible to have the band playing too, so with that in mind, if it were me I would be more inclined to just shoot yourself as the vocalist, maybe a close up head shot and then when you show the guitars etc, do them in close up too as you already did with the drum clip etc. Not suggesting that you re-do this one as you've obviously put a lot of work into it, but maybe something to bear in mind next time out. Also I don't know if you have the facility to do this or not, but I think it would look better if the shots of you were faded/blended  into the background image a little more rather than you just being stood in front of something if that makes sense - you could probably achieve this by making the footage of you a little transparent / ghostly looking. Wish I could explain it better. This is an example of the kind of thing I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT7W58Z85HI

Hope you don't mind me pulling your work apart, it's not like your video is bad or anything, just trying to be honest so that with practice your videos can look as "pro" as your music already sounds.

paulo has a point to a certain extent,as im sure your improving on your vids all the time,i know one thing, they have major quality and a huge potential to go viral,i left a comment of you tube this morning and now finally making my way here.
i love this song, there is something about your style of songs that is real.
i mean like real music, what music used to be like.

youve managed to bring this style in to the now and with updated flavors, like the drop tuning i notice you used in this that is ever so powerful.

    your a great combo singer-guitarist/songwritter.
and am very jealous, envy your sound and mixes.
they are clean and so crisp.

i could learn a lot from just listening to you mixes bob.
and thats about the highest compliment i can give anyone.

    Hey, Scotty,

Thank you, Sir, I'm always happy for your good input and observations, and value your opinion very highly!

I'm still really in the very beginning of the learning process on this video stuff, and never even had taken a "home video" before my first attempt on the "Hearts On Fire" Video a few months back, so for this one I had to go back and relearn what I did eight months ago just to catch up.

Yep, LOL, I can play out live in front of literally thousands of people and never get uncomfortable or nervous acting like a total maniac on stage, but when it comes time to pose for a picture or in his case shoot a video, I get super uncomfortable and feel like a total idiot!  I'm hoping that with much more practice and experience, I'll learn to just relax a little and have fun with it, and it will end up appearing more natural on camera.

Thanks again, Scott, it's always great to hear from you!

a lot of phalic references on that guitar...

This was good, but youtube sucks so badly that you can't just watch the video without it pausing and then starting again?  I wish this was posted on another streaming site where it would play better... I really hate youtube.

I would like more girls with big thigies dancing to the tune and shaking it... Don't get me wrong, you're not an unattractive man? But that makes any video better IMO? I could only get about a min and a half in before I had to shut it (because youtube sucks...)  So the key takeaways here are "Young girls" "Big thingies" and "shakin it..." Like a Snew video? Check out their stuff ;-) I believe they hire young "ladies" who are dancers? To appear in their videos... U can watch their videos on youtube even with the annoying pauses? :-) Not sure why? I can't quite put my finger on it?

Their music isn't necessarily great (but I like it?) but you gotta love their videos :-)

Big thingies make "everything" more enjoyable? And seem to fit particularly well with this Genera? Snew? Your honor? The defense rests... And I agree, Bob's music "rawks..." I'm a huge fan. But... Well, the best example I can think of that would help improve this would be Snew's "Got love..." Those aren't the girls you want to bring home to mama? But those are the girls you want to bring home...

Yes, Sir, LOL, out of all the decades of playing live on stage, the only times I always dreaded was having to go into the pro photographers studios for the band photo shoots.  I always felt like such a dork when they were trying to get us to pose and "try to look cool"!  It's a riot, on a nightclub stage with hundreds of people, I'm running around like a lunatic and cool as a cucumber, but stick me in a room with just a few people and one stupid camera, and it's like I'm part of a wax museum display!   Hopefully, the more videos I end up doing, the less uncomfortable things will get.

There's only 2 things I can think of that would make this better? And I think you know what they are... As Julie Andrews sang, "These are a few of my favorite things?" And I ain't talking about the dog biting or the bee stinging?

Well, actually... Dogs could be involved? "If they were pink nosed puppies..."

I loved this number when you posted the first time as just an audio.  This is only your second video?  Wow --- you have an incredibly fast learning curve!!!!  Really outstanding stuff Bob.  Well done.

    Hey, Paulo,

Thanks, brother, I really appreciate you taking a look at the video and your good input and ideas!

I definitely plan on using some of your ideas in the next video, I've been checking out some of the different effects similar to what was used in the video that you linked to.  Being completely new to this, I'm still really learning all of the different aspects of video shooting, production and editing, but I think that just like the DAW stuff, the more I do it, the experience factor will provide improvement and spark new creative ideas.  Now, if I can only relax a bit more while actually shooting the video things will hopefully improve.

Thanks again, Paulo, I appreciate your kind words and great input, and also your support.

    Best wishes,

    Bob

    Hey, Charlie,

Man, thanks so much for checking it out and also commenting on Youtube, I really appreciate your very encouraging comments!

Your first two paragraphs are the biggest compliments that I can ever receive and really mean a lot to me!  As many of our friends here on the forum can remember, when I first joined here, in many of my posts I mentioned that my whole goal of learning this digital recording stuff was to try to create some sort of fusion combining the 80's hard rock and metal that I always loved with the new modern production style that's being used on today's hard rock and new metal.  So your insightful comments really made my day, buddy!

Thanks again, Charlie, I really appreciate your input, support and friendship here on the forum.

    Have a good one, buddy!

How's it going, buddy?  Hope you're doing great!

Thanks so much for checking out the video and also for your very kind words!

I really appreciate your input and always value your input highly because your stuff is always dynamite.  Speaking of which, your new ZZ Top cover is smokin' hot, Billy G and the boys would be proud, Grant, fantastic work!

Thanks again, Grant and have a great night!

    Hey, Robby,

How's it going, brother?  Hope you had a rockin' weekend!

Big thanks for checking this out and for your comments and good suggestions!

Yeah, I find that Youtube can be sketchy at different times of the day, and it seems that sometimes they throttle the stream to handle traffic fluctuations.  Sometimes I can play twenty or thirty videos in a row without a single skip, and then I'll start a different video and it starts and stops several times while trying to stream and makes it almost impossible to watch.  It's pretty fickle because it's supposedly the second most used website in the world.

Thanks for the good ideas for my next video.  Maybe I'll get "two tickets to Pittsburgh", and try to recruit one of the new SI swimsuit models, although, I've always been told that good old Dolly Parton has two of the biggest hits in show business! (that's hits..., I definitely said hits!)

Thanks again, buddy, and killer job on your new Thin Lizzy cover with Mark, it's kicks serious butt!

    Have a good one!
    Bob

    Hey, Bub,

How are you, buddy?  I hope you're doing great and having a good week!

Thank you, Sir, very much for checking out the video and for your encouraging comments!  I really appreciate you taking time to take a look and comment, and I'm grateful for your support.

If I remember correctly from some of your Coffee House posts, your grew up about an hour from here near one of my favorite places (and world famous landmarks), "Hot Dog Johnny's".  Oh, man, now I'm hungry and thinking about heading down there this Saturday to avoid the 75,000 people coming here for the St. Patrick's Day parade!

Thanks again, Bub, I'm truly grateful for your input.  Have a good one, buddy!

Thanks, brother, and also for for the tip on that band, their song rocks, and they sound a lot like two of my favorite bands, Jackyl and AC/DC.  LOL, Interesting video, too.

    Have a good one, buddy!

Thank you for checking out the video and your kind comment about the song, and wow, I'm very sorry to hear about your vision problems, and I hope and pray that your doctor can get your vision loss under control.

Thanks again, my friend, and very best wishes!

Geez Bob - that is really great!!! Nice song. How much time does it take to do a video like this?  What software do you use for Video?
