My Sonar track icons

i said in a previous tread that i had made some Sonar track icons. and here they are. most is just the ones from Native Instruments but some are original.

Do you intend to keep that Onedrive link available all the time, or is this a time limited link? I ask because I have made my Onedrive Public folder available for Sonar related docs, pics etc and I've uploaded your icons there in a zip file.

Og gray color in my icons makes it invisible at that location. I didn't test that much, I just imported the color from an existing Sonar icon. *.bmp do not have invisibility at all. In next update maybe support for  *.png files or something similar.

It depends on the BMP type.
In this case you can create a PNG24 with a pure alpha channel, then convert it and it keeps the alpha.
The originals do use a gray backing though, but that can be trickier choosing a specific color to make transparent.
Mine show black backgrounds, but are actual alpha, and that way any black in the graphic itself remains unaffected.

To clarify. My icons are transparent in the gray parts there. Its just that there is no grading of transparity like more advanced picture format has. Even icon files is better. Maybe implementing icons would be best. You have 2 typed. *.ico and *.icl. Last is icon library and you can put in as many icons as you wants in it. *.ico files has that in a way too, but you can not select pictures. They display after size.

That's correct, gradients aren't supported the same in bmp.
bmp is used as a wrapper for png, to get transparency in this case.
Without boring everyone with details, that's why png24 works better than png8 when they both can create a simple alpha channel.
 
Same with the program running the code and long explanations.
But to put simply... the ancient bmp format is still the norm for windows programming because they are native to DOS.
A GUI isn't usually changed by the user "in part", and the larger file size is balanced by reading speed in Windows, so it's still fast, and a "standard standard". lol
 
ICO is too restrictive.. png support would work best here, other than adding to the code-string.
Basically changing the format used at the coding level is easy enough, but it's like adding a separate app to view the format before the user sees it..... much more code and "display latency". blah blah blah
 
I have a e-book I wrote years ago if I can dig it up, but it is out of date as far as graphic use and format support go.
And I've read somewhere that GIFs patent expired in 04. lol

Cool, nice to have Alicia's face on her Keys track.

If you are only seeing file names when you click "Load Track Icons."  you just need to click the top right button in the Windows Explorer window that opens and change it from "Details" to "Medium Icons."  This is a Windows setting and has little to do with Sonar itself.
 
My icons were installed by default under C:\Cakewalk Content\[SONAR Version]\Track Icons.  If your icons are missing, try looking there or do a search for "icons."
 
I moved Cakewalk Content folder to D: to save space on my system drive and I changed the setting for icons in Folder Locations to reflect that.  Try looking at that setting under Preferences.  Maybe it is set wrong.  When you find your icon folder, be sure to change this setting.
