I, on the other hand, could get up to 'em, but was afraid to climb down. I'm lucky I ended up back on the ground somehow!

Thanks again Rick & Janet! You shouldn't have gone 'out on a limb' just to listen to this..

My tree fort is where I hid my dirty magazines!! Loved the open sound and beautiful textures. The real percussion added a lot to this. Really nice job!

Wow Larry and Jonbouy, that just awesome.

I think the percussion is too dominant at times and could fall back a little. The violin is hard to hear when it first plays but later it fits right. You write great tunes Larry, and your soundclick pics are the best.

Hi, Larry,

Excellent piece with a fresh "clean" feel and nice smooth playing, as always. Jon also did a great job on the percussion. Good work, guys!

Dave - Which ones?? LOL! Jon added some GREAT percussion, but Jon is a holographic image only... Thanks! We appreciate it!

Mark - Thanks fer poppin' in man! Jon threatened me with kidney pie if I didn't crank the percussion. Others on another forum told me the violin was too loud..so,unno at this point Thanks for the kudos on the composition. I usually just do a goggle on the theme and find some really interesting pics.

IJenNeh - Thank you very much, especially from those whose music I really respect and admire. Jon did some wonderful percussion and very quickly mind you. I wish I was hearing what you're hearing on my mixes, because I think I do a poor job of mixing. It's something that I need to get a better grasp on and can be very frustrating at times. Always a work in progress I suppose, but better than yard-work.

Bob - Thanks buddy! We'll glady accept those nice comments.

Right thats it! Be prepared to be force fed Jellied Eels by a laser light being...

Blaming me for the perc. being too loud I thought it was fine as it was, before you bowed to the peer pressure and cranked it up Mr Hansen... I will confess to the Congas being a bit rich with reverb though, and I won't mention that you felt the need to add more...

The main thing is that the love and unity in this collaboration shines through in the music....now have another spoonful of eels Larry...

Mark & John - Of course I succumbed to all the peer pressure!! I'm sooo confused anyways... Never got much love & reinforcement from my mom & dad......

Dear Jon, I hope this letter finds you well...... I have to blame somebody ya know.. A serious question tho... How does one pick up & eat slimey, jellied eels with a spoon??? Do they digest quickly? Just trying to make a 'star' out of you, that's all. I figured if you were a wee bit louder, people would take notice.. Why do the ones that love me hurt me the most..sigh....

Tom - Too much of the 'Dust Bowl" fella?? I have 'those moments' all the time. The 'piano' is my Yamaha MM6 keyboard. Hey! I think Jon's drums are fantastic man!! Just send ME the money.....

I have to chuckle at that. Reminds me of the time I sang a solo at youth summer church camp years ago. After I sang the kids started applauding wildly. I stopped them by saying "hold the applause, just throw money." That's exactly what they did and by the time we'd picked it all up off the floor we had the largest offering collection of the week.

Wow Larry... I'm not sure how I managed to miss this one for so long. I enjoyed this a lot. Love the bass part in the beginning and Jon came up with some really good percussion. The only thing that jumped out at me is the violin at 1:18 sounded... hmmm.. whiney? but only that first little part of it. It quickly grew on me though with the next listen. I just thought I should mention it because it did 'jump' out at me a bit. The acoustics sound wonderful and you've got some really sweet playing all through this. If I've repeated anyone, it's because I haven't read through the thread. You guys did some really nice work in this and I really like it a lot.

Steve - Many thanks man! Jon's lookin' fer more money now...

Mike - Much appreciated! I'm not happy about the violin, but I'm gettin' tired of this song already. That task is in the 'Someday' folder....

Darin - Thanks for the listen and comments. I'll change the violin patch down the road somewhere in time... Jon & I are very pleased you enjoyed this!

Davs på dig!

Really cute tune! Beautiful sensitive playing all the way. I kept picturing myself high up in a tree.. Made me smile! Love the vibrato laden violin!

I would suggest matching the reverb levels on the different instruments a little more. The acoustic guitar is very upfront, which is nice, while the drums and percussive elements have a lot of short gated reverb. I think it would all sound a bit more 'together' if you added a little reverb on the guitars and reduced the verb on the drums.

Just a suggestion, the track more than stands up the way it is now!

Sven

Larry
I really loved this tune ( and Colab) of you and JOn boy........but I do need to 2nd Gary's comment of the verb......it unsettled me as well......I think because it is due to that I (Like I have any thing to do with it....LOL) hear this as mostly traditional instrumentation with out the effects...or at least min. usage on them instruments.....but other wise.............I REALLY WISH I COULD WRITE LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

very lovely feel and groove to it!

I'll take responsibility for the mismatched verb as we did the parts separately I sub-mixed mine trying to best guess how it would fit in so Larry is innocent here. In future I'll give him a dryer stem to work the verb in so it don't clash.

It was our first date so there was bound to be a bit of fumbling...

Yo Larry,

Very pleasant and rambling instramental with a nuanced George Winston/ William Ackerman feel. I like it quite a bit.

(If I did a tree fort number, it would sound more like Jupiter from the Planets. Me and neighbor fought and won most of World War II from his tree fort. We bagged at least 8 ME-109's and 6 Tiger tanks from that formidable structure. Not to mention dozens of NAZI's.)

Oh yeah, as far as the bass line is concerned: I like it because it is more countermelodic than the usual bass line. Brian Wilson did a lot of this, esp. during the Pet Sounds era. He was more likely to play a 3rd or a sixth than the root and this gave his songs more harmonic depth and interest(which they already had a lot of to start with.). Its never wrong to drop the the root right on top of the downbeat and it always sounds 'right'. But it does put the harmony in a bit of straight-jacket as far as I am concerned. I say pick up the bass and play it as you hear it.

Cheers,

Bert
